So I like vaibhav's plan about parking in Tosh. My only doubt remains, if I carry clean sheets with me, would I be able to get a less-than-filthy accommodation, bedding at Kheerganga?
From what i've just googled & read it looks like there is hut accommodation there these days,my reference to extremely filthy GH's was in reference to Malana not Khir Ganga,i imagine it will be fairly clean if it's set up by the villagers from Kalga, unlike the Malana folk they are very clean.

Either Vaibhav's got this wrong or i'm out of touch with the area these days as far as i know there is no road to Tosh, the road ends at Bershani??KK

There is a road to Tosh - not serviced by buses but you can ride your own bike or car (I saw three cars and a jeep with private and taxi numbers parked at the edge of the Tosh village). There's also a guest house called Olive Garden inside the tosh village and another one that i forget the name of. This was in mid-september 2011. I also met a group of travelers (Israelis) hiking to Khirganga from Tosh (and not from Kalga) side.

Looks like you need to come down here more often KK

Either way, Tosh is only 2 KM from Bershani. We can trek that part.
I have made up my my mind to stay at Tosh. I just hope I get some thing as good as Alpine or Bahadur GH.

Oh! looks like i'm behind the times (old!) Last time i went as far as Bershani/Kalka was around 2005-6 although i have been to M'karan & Kasol, Malana since then. First time i went to Parvati v was '97 when the road stopped at M'karan, we set off from there on foot around 7am & reached Pulga village around 3pm,not sure whether Kalga even existed then,we followed a goat track which is now the road to Bershani.KK

Thanks a ton KK and Vaibhav for the valuable replies. I shall post a detailed report of my trip once I'm back in a week form now.

Just one last question

Just like Manali is divided into Old and new, and Old Manali has bulk of the cheap Guest houses and lodgings, which part of Kasol will have these...Old or New? Or can I stay at Chalal?

I prefer peace, tranquility, less crowded place, one or two cafes around, and a place where everyone minds their own business

Kasol is much smaller than Manali,if you want a quiet place try Bhandari GH set in orchards in a very Shanti setting see link on post 10 of this thread. Chalal will be packed with Isreali's this time of year.KK

Walk_about, great to know you had a good time. I am reaching Saturday early morning by Volvo and will stay 3 nights.

Some Qs for you/others

- How is the accommodation scene right now ? I got few names looking at previous posts - Alpine, Shalom, Deep Forest, Bhandari GH, Bahadur GH. Are all these literally less than minutes walk to Kasol and is it easy to find something ? I need a place in a nice ambient setting, prefer one which is not really family/children/pilgrimage based. Will not mind paying a bit more if needed.

- Any idea how much you pay for the "BEST STUFF"

- Not sure if I will make it to Malana this time, but might do Kalga and Pulga. Best to do in 1 day/2 days ?

- Might need to connect to concrete world even when I dont want to - Net cafes easily available ?

- No problem with accommodation. If anything, I found the town a bit deserted. For specific recommendations - rely on regular visitors

- No idea. Overheard someone mention 1.5k

- Both of them are quite close to Kasol. Should be do-able.

- Plenty of net-cafes. GPRS works too

Siddhant,

For point numbers 1 and 2 read this trip report by Khargosh_hamster. Trip Report - Malana Village - June 2012.

For point number 3: Kasol is within the parvati valley. Doing both Kheerganga and Malana treks in the 4 day time frame is possible (malana is two day trek with overnight, kheerganga - conflicting reports, can be a two day with overnight or same day?) but you may get very tired and I would not advise that with the overnight driving that you'd do from here.

This thread has been very helpful, would request if any of you who have done the trip recently (walkabout has ) can help answer a few quick queries of mine.
Leaving for Kasol from Delhi on wed(27th) and back on sunday.
Riding alone, need a few bits of info to plan.

Thanks.

Here are my queries:
Which route should I take from Delhi, good roads and fastest one?
If I am unable to cover the 500+ kms on day one, is Mandi is good place to halt just for the night?
Travelling alone, so wanted to know if the treaks are safe, somebody warned me about "looteras" :P even though I would be of much use to them?
How much time would the Kheer ganga trek take from Kasol and is it safe to leave the bike parked in Kasol?
If I want to trek and be back to the comforts of the hotel by evening, which are the short treks i should look at?
P.S: i'm leaving Delhi on wednesday(27th) 3am. have to be back on sunday(1st July) evening.
Thanks you

Delhi - Panchkula - Shimla - Kasol
If I am unable to cover the 500+ kms on day one, is Mandi is good place to halt just for the night?
I think doing 540 km on bike is difficult in a day. Plenty of hotels in Mandi.
Travelling alone, so wanted to know if the treaks are safe, somebody warned me about "looteras" :P even though I would be of much use to them?
I know about KheerGanga. It is pretty safe. You are gonna find other trekkers on the way, so no problem. But I think you should do it in daylight.
How much time would the Kheer ganga trek take from Kasol and is it safe to leave the bike parked in Kasol?
It took us 6-7 hours. We didn't stop much though. I parked my car for overnight, so I guess it is safe.
If I want to trek and be back to the comforts of the hotel by evening, which are the short treks i should look at?
Not Kheer Ganga
P.S: i'm leaving Delhi on wednesday(27th) 3am. have to be back on sunday(1st July) evening.
Thanks you
