Road from Kalka to Shimla

What's it like under normal (no mudslides) conditions? Winding and hair raising, or a bit tamer?

If the Toy Train route has not been repaired by Oct.1, I'm considering going by road from Kalka to Shimla.

Thanks.

Kalka - Shimla is fantastic, for us bikers its a virtual race track. Though if you are not used to Indian driving then it would be winding and hair rising experience for you

I just read: Just heard about Shimla Toy Train!

I wonder if the TT'll be fixed by November when we plan to go on it.

That's reassuring.

I read a news report that said they had to get men up from Delhi to check the rails and begin work and it would take at least ten days. Seems like we'll be fine for autumn.

I imagine you still get the odd bus plunging off that road ..... but it's pretty tame, IMO, compared to the Shimla - Narkanda leg.
