That´s way cool - a tunnel running higher than the Everest ...

Post Leh in October 1st week

Hi friends,
We 3 of us from Bangalore are planning a trip to Leh from Sept 30th to Oct 7th...We are planning to fly from Bangalore to Delhi and then by roads to Leh. On the way back we are planning to fly from Leh to Delhi and then to Bangalore. Can somebody help us out with the weather conditions in Leh in Oct 1st week ? Will the snowfall create road blocks at this time of the year.
Please advice...

Thanks
Sanju

I just got back from leh yesterday. there has been some snow fall both on baralachala and rohtang. However this has not disrupted vehicle traffic and i had no problems on the road. The weather has also started clearing out and looks like the road will stay open till late oct just like last year

It's a serious bad idea to go to Leh in a Santro. Here's one member who did it anyway after being warned and then realised en-route he shud have listened to the warnings.

Read his blog given in the above msg.

Whether the route is open will depend on whether there's fresh snow or not. In any case during Oct it clears quickly. But do yourselves a favour and get a bigger vehicle.

Update as on 10th Oct 07

Rohtang La - open.
Baralacha La - closed to vehicular traffic due to snow, but might have reopened by now.

Baralacha la, Kunzum La and Rohtang were closed and it is not safe to travel over these passes anymore. Any time- a little disturbance in weather may result in getting trapped.

All these passes have tragic history but still tourist keep on taking chances.

What is the best time hang out in Manali this summer? I want cheap accomodation away from local tourists.

What will be the weather like in may and june?

June won't be a good time to travel considering it is the "Bengali season" and all places will be jam packed. Last year i was in Kullu in June and people were have a tough time finding cheap & good accommodation in Manali.

Weather will be very pleasant in May/June. I find September/October to be a good time travel in Himalayas. You get less tourists, clearer view after the monsoon is over, but more cooler.
