Does anyone have any status on the Manali - Leh highway given the recent rains in Ladakh. Does it make sense to travel to Leh for going to Tso Moriri/ Stok Kangri next week?

Hi,
We are in Leh now and road conditions are still critical.
Leh-Manali highway is blocked between Taglang-La and Leh, but they are fixing it (we've been told that it will be fixed in one or two days).
Leh-Srinagar road is feasible but you have to switch jeep.
Roads to Nubra Valley and to Tso Moriri are closed.
They also should be fixed in a couple of days.

According to CNN website weather is going to improve in the next days. Let's hope for the best.

Helpful Officials

We are reaching Manali on 12th August. We called up the tourism office in Leh & they confirmed what Opus has said; work is going on & the Manali - Leh road should be ready in 2 days time. The official gave his name & number & told us to call again once we reach Manali, so that he can give us the latest update!

Hi All,

It seems the situation is not too good.
Acording to the Tribune some villages are flooded and the roads from Manali and Kashmir are also not operational.
You can read the full story at

Road Condition

I just now spoke to Leh Tourism office
They are saying the conditions are good, roads are working.
They even confirmed that rain has stopped.
Here are few numbers:

01982-252094
01982-252072
01982-265012

You can confirm the same by calling these numbers.

I am planning to start my journey for Leh from Manali on 12th

Please keep on posting latest updates if any one calls these numbers.

Much Appreciated.

Hi,

here in Leh the situation is improving. We have been told that the Leh-Manali road is now open. By tomorrow, also the road to Nubra Valley should be open. Some secondary roads are still blocked and bridges collapsed (i.e. to Stok Palace, Phyang...).
This morning the sun was shining, but now some showers are going on.
Tomorrow we would like to go to Nubra Valley. If we are still stuck here, we will keep you informed.

Bye

Samjha Karo LOVEMAX not everyone can max it out to your capabilities (no pun or offense intended).
Imagine spending a freezing night in a non air con bus stuck in the middle of nowhere with heavy rains and no food. (not to mention AMS)
Ok so thats an extreme case but one must go prepared physically, mentally, and advice to all take sufficeint food and water just in case.

Just called up Leh Tourism who sent me to Civil Authorities. They said the climate and everything is fine now and tourist are coming to Leh. About roads I talked to the Police Control Room. They said Roads are ok fromManali to Leh. Also, roads from Leh to Pangong and Khardungla are working. Hopefully it will remain the same. Else it would be a great adventure .
