Very difficult to get camping gear on the way however if you intend to do Chandratal Lake Ramesh in Kaza is a good source ..... Dont pack much (At least Thats what I do) ... focus more on medicine, essentials (sun screen) good hiking boots, Fleece, Dungrees, and great reflectors, Binoculars are an essential ... I am sure youre gonna have a great time ...

There seem to be conflicting reports on when Kunzum La is liable to open. As there are probably some IMikers heading that way soon, has anyone got any definite information on when the pass will open?

Hi

Hi,
Dont about the Manali Leh Highway ... However spoke to a friend in Kaza ... The Kunzum opens on or by the 25th of this month ... The road is mostly clear except for the glacier points .... cabs are plying upto Chattru from manali .... You can cross the Kunzum which has become relatively easier over the past 3 days ... Work is in progress and traffic should resume ..... Hope the gods oblige .....

Cheers,
dhananjay

Hi

Hi,
The Kunzum is open and the whole circuit is a Jinx ... Kunzum Opens MALLING CLOSES ..... indefinite for now ... local sources suggest it will open in two days .... The other road also has developed the same snag of ice melting and a landslide worse ..... So it never seems to get alright ...
Check after two days

Cheers

Hi all,
The Road from Manali to Leh is Open from the 15th of June for all Traffic.
There are a lot of vehicles and Daily State Roadway Busses to Leh from Manali.
Do you all know that there is a basic local bus from Delhi to Leh Every Day. It takes 3 Days to reach leh after overnight halts at Manali & Sarchu. Yo'll have to be really brave to travel the full lenghth of the road trip from Delhi to Manali in 3 Days.

this years monsoon was brutal along with a 7.6 quake..
i question the road conditions heading to Manakiran...and on towards Rhotang Leh .In fact i noticed that bus rolled yesterday near kasol killing numerous
once the Wave passed the surf returned to normal...these mountains
are not the same...

Latest Update - May 27th 2006

Hi all,

Since this thread is pinned, i thought a latest update for 2006 would do well here.

As off May 27th the roads to Leh are open both from Srinagar, and from Manali. The trafic is moving smoothly for now.

If the weather holds good, we hope the Manali to Leh Road would be open till end Oct 2006 from now on.

Regards

Styler

I drove to Keylong Last week.

The Road from Manali to rohtang is in bad shape for 2-3 20 mtr streatches between Gulaba and Beas Nala. Rest is just fine. I saw Indicas, Maruti 800s reach Rohtang safely....
I met Naushad of antrek in Manali, and he had given me this advice, and it saved me from the trafic Jams.
If somebody is driving through rohtang to Keylong /Leh it is recommended to start not later than 5.45am from Manali, or else be ready to be stuch in a Trafic Jam at rohtang for a few hrs.
