road conditions from delhi to dharamsala

total turnaround of plans! Travelling to naldehra now.will go around 15th of this month. Dharmsala in december or january when my back would be hopefully better!

Thanks a ton everyone for all the inputs. would be useful later this year when we finally take the journey.

Plan to stay at the chalets in naldehra if we get a reservation that is.

Hi again,
I just heard today that NH22 between Ambala Cantt and Zirakpur/Chandigarh is closed. You have to drive upto Rajpura on NH1 and then turn right. That is an excellent stretch of road, done up so that Amrinder Singh cud get to Patiala asap!
U cud also bypass Punjab and go straight to Panchkula. 2 km beyond Shahabad, turn right towards Saha. From Saha, NH73 goes direct to Panchkula. This is a good fast road and shorter than via Rajpura. However u shud only take it if u can find out for a fact that the flyover over the railway-line 12 km up the road after the Shahabad turn-off is ready (it wasn't in Oct 06). If not, better to avoid, as it is possible to get stuck at the railway crossing for 1-2 hours. Going to Shimla and beyond last year, I was unlucky on the way up (had to come back to NH1, lost 40 min), but was lucky on the way back, the crossing was open.
If u don't get accom at Naldehra, there's a nice hotel at Mashobra. Great view from the rooms and excellent food. Let me know if u need the details.

thanks! i would love to try out mashobra. Have been to naldehra once and would love to go to some other place. please do send me the details..

It's called Hotel Rock Heaven, a little beyond the Mashobra bazar on the Naldehra road, on the left hand. It's owned/run by a pleasant elderly Sikh gent. Tel nos:

In 2005 the rates were:
Deluxe room - Rs.1000 + tax
Double room - Rs.750 + tax
Extra bed - Rs.200
Rates were the same upto Dec 06, but may have gone up now.
