Recommendations for Kasauli

Hi,

I'll be making a short trip to S. Himachal in Sep, and wanted to know if anyone could recommend a good budget option in Kasauli?

There's not too much information, beyond what I could glean from the usual sources and places.

I've considered HPDTC's Ros Common, but would like to know if anyone could recommend another option for under 1500 Rs a night? Or has experience with the R.C. I'm looking for something that's a good value but clean, comfortable.

Thank You!

you can try hotel R maidens or Alasia which would come under 2200 due to off season discounts.

Thanks for the advice. Apparently Kasauli seems to be not as touristed as other places in H.P. by the lack of responses. I've read that Alasia is somewhat overpriced for it's shabby rooms, even though it is a historic hotel. I don't know much about the Maidens, but I think I'll just end up booking the R.C.

Follow up to Kasauli hotels and Arki

So just to follow up on the HPTDC's Ros Common in Kasauli, the double room that we stayed at (this was around early September) was very comfortable, clean and well appointed. I think that the bathroom was one of the largest I've seen so far in my India travels.

The service staff was very attentive and the food was tasty, so all in all, I found it to be a good experience. Also it's in a good quiet location with a nice view. What more can you ask for?

Later in the trip we travelled by local bus to Arki. Arki, isn't listed in the LP guidebook, so if you're looking for places off of the beaten track, this is it. The road was being repaired where it had been damaged due to the recent monsoon rains, in some places it was in pretty poor shape. The whole trip by local bus took about 3 hrs from Kasauli with a change of buses at Sabathu.

The "Hotel Palace Retreat" heritage hotel, was somewhat frayed around the edges, but still comfortable. Service was attentive, but not professional. However the real attraction to visiting this late 17th C fort palace is to see the murals in its Diwan-i-Khas, though perhaps they may not appeal to those without a specific interest in art.

The fascinating thing about the murals is the quality of the work and the eclectic number of different schools of miniature painting that are represented: Kangra, Mughal, Rajput, Arki... There are also some copies of European etchings, scenes from Venice, and other cities along with some vistas of Chinese cities. Fascinating stuff.

Ironically, I must have asked half-a-dozen times on Friday how to get to Subathu from Bhararighat without going thru Arki. All roads in the area seem to lead there, if u're not careful - it was otherwise off-route for me and I was keen to avoid extra kms. Well, didn't have time to stop and look around anyway.
