Recommendations/Advice Requested...

I plan on traveling to India this fall, touching down in Delhi the 2nd week of September... My present itinerary is as follows:

Dharamsala (mid-Sept to mid-Oct)
Rishikesh (mid Oct to mid-Nov)
Varansi (mid-Nov to early Dec)
Bodh Gaya (early Dec to early Jan)
Goa? Puri? (1 wk in Jan)

Returning to the states the 3rd week of January...

Any suggested changes or additions or other bits of wisdom would be greatly appreciated...

Thanks-

Having spent over a year in Varanasi, and having lived for all months of the year there, I can share that mid-November in Varanasi is pretty close to my favorite time. Nights/mornings can be cool-ish, depending on your point of reference/departure. As you get into December there can be fog over the river, and it can get thick, and cold-ish. But because of this the town itself is less-touristed-travelered. If you'd like I can give you contact info for a very reputable yogi-teacher for things spiritual.

Hi Drewdha!

Small world--i grew up in Woodbury, NJ!!

How are you getting from Delhi to Dharamala? Via one route you can do, a stop in Amritsar (train Del to Amritsar) is great. See the Golden Temple in Amritsar--amazing, especially as you are intersted in religius sites.

Re: Dharmamsala--you will probably be actually spending time in "North Dharamaala" i.e. McLeod Ganj -this is where Dalai Lama enclave is located. So when searching for info about lodging, etc in "Dharamsala" check Mcleod Ganj, not Dharamsala

@ scampo - that would be nice... i'm travelling alone and more than a few folks have shared that having a travelling companion at times might be a bit safer... I should be arriving in upper dharamsala (mcleod ganj) September 13/14/15 ....

Hi Drewdha, I am planning to be in Dharamsala before, at the beginning of September and come back on 13-15 to Delhi, to move then to Varanasi. I have still to decide whether to come back by train or plane, hope to find some advice in the forum. Anyway, if you want we can keep in touch and exchange emails, perhaps we can meet on the way. I am starting to get so excited about this travel!!!
