planning a 3 wk trip in July-Aug

We are looking forward to a trip in India from July 17-Aug 7 (3wks). We are flying into Delhi and then would like to head north to Himachal Pradesh. We are interested in Shimla, Mandi,Manali,Dharmsala, Chamba, etc. We are looking for a mix of touristy (since it is our first visit) and more local pleasures. Can anyone suggest a good itenerary? Good hotels on a a fairly low budget? Good restuarants? Transportation advice Weather advice?

Also, we were considering also going to Rishikesh and Agra as well on the trip. Do you think that is doable or worth it?

It seems like I asked a lot but any advice and suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Stick to Himalayas in July - Aug.

Remember Agra / Delhi / Jaipur are going to be very hot in summer. But, you should be able to bear this for 2 days for the Taj.

Rajasthan may be hot in July, since u have 3 weeks u can consider Uttaranchal along with Himachal, wub be ideal for the summer or if you want to feel all alone you can head to Ladakh and Zanskar(in Kashmir) from Manali. Most other info u can get by googling the respective state tourism sites.
