We stayed at Hotel Chandrabhaga in 2004 and found it great. The location is the best among all the hotels, Staff very co-operative and helping.

Hi Everyone,
I'm planning to leave from Delhi for Manali on 31st May by bus. I'll spend 1st June in Manali and then I want to take a bus the next day to Leh. Here are some questions I have. Please help out if possible. 1. Do I need to book hotel accommodation in advance or can I just get off the bus on the 1st and look around for a room? All I need is a bed and a loo. 2. What kind of buses can I take to Leh? Do I have to book in advance for it? 3. Will the Manali-Leh road be open on 1st June? Thanks ![]() |

2. HRTC ordinary buses. HPTDC also runs a luxury bus with night-stay and some meals thrown in, but their website says this is only July-Sep. You cud check whether they've decided to start earlier. Advance reservation is poss, but not necess. Just be at the bus stand well in time to get a seat. 3. Yes. It might be wiser to stay another night in Manali for acclimatisation. Or at Keylang. Delhi-Leh with just a night in Manali in between is generally not considered a good idea. Last edited by Dilliwala : May 16th, 2008 at 16:46. Reason: typo |

Hi Dilliwala,
Wow! That was a really quick response! Thanks. When I said I'll go by bus from Manali to Leh, I forgot to say that a stop in between is definitely on my agenda, preferably at Keylong. In Manali, ideally I'd like to get off the bus on 1st morning, find a reasonably ok hotel, wash up, and then spend the whole day walking about. Would you know of any additional budget hotel options near the bus stand? Does the bus tariff include stay in Keylong/Sarchu etc? Or do I need to find a room on my own there? Thanks |

Not by name, but plenty of establishments around the bus stand. Also in Old Manali and Vashisht. Just ask around at the bus stand.
The ordinary bus fare does not include anything else. So best option wud be to take a bus to Keylang and go into one of the cheap hotels in the bazar listed earlier. Next day you can take another bus to Leh. Long run though - read up on the AMS threads on the site for some precautionary measures. |

Please note; buses from Manali to Leh don't run everyday, so make sure you get your timing right. KK

Thanks Kullukid and Dilliwala. Both of you have been a really helpful. I'll start working the phones
I've already suffered symptoms of AMS once before, when I'd gone to North Sikkim. At least I'll know what to look out for. |

Dear ArijitChaki,
There is bus Service run by Himachal Toursim for Manali to Leh. the Bus Fare last year for Manali to Leh was 1600/-, which included a hotel stay in Kyelong (i.e Chanderbagha Hotel). the Bus starts from Manalia round Noon, & reaches Leh Next Evening. |

Thanks Balvar,
I'll check that out too. If that bus is running this year too, it would be ideal! I think this is the same bus Dilliwala was talking about. |

As mentioned above by Dilliwalla , get absolute minimum a night each in Manali and Keylong before hitting the 5000+ mark.Don´t sleep in --The Vomit Hilton-- Sarchu on the way up , eight hundred meters higher than Leh, save it for the return leg when you have acclimatized better.
