Parvati Valley December 2012
Parvati Valley December 2012
Hey IM,
Im planning a trip to India at the end of this year for approximately 2 months. Not so much a 'try see all off india in 2 months' trip but more a relaxed hanging out in the mountains holiday with lots of trekking and good nature.
Naturally the Parvati Valley was an obvious choice and I also have some Israeli friends who recommend it highly. My main concern is how cold it will be around this time and if things will still be 'happening'. From what I have read it depends where you are but can maybe expect avg temps of around 5-15 degrees celsius, which is not too bad.
Whilst its not imperative, I do like the party scene and was hoping to catch some nature trance parties or something like this as well. Or at least have the opportunity to meet lots of other people doing similar kind of thing to me. So, my question is will I find this in December? Or will everything be pretty much winding down and closed up. Am I better off just heading south to the beaches for this kind of holiday?
Thanks people

Hi there! Im planning a short trip to Kasol in December as well. Probably just for the first couple of weeks. The concerns you raised are same as mine.. Psy parties most importantly! Hoping to get some positive resposes !

Yeah! I've been doing a fair bit of reading and its pretty hard to tell exactly what the scene will be like. Definitely going to be cold and reasonably quiet, BUT I'm sure there will be some people around and things happening.
Would love some advice!

There won't be any kind of "scene" in Dec, Kasol will be pretty much closed down & all the Isreali's will be in Goa.A few hardcore Italian & French travellers gravitate there at that time, while there's "peace in the valley" but they tend to stay in Manikaran & Pulga. Sunny days but cold morns & nights in Dec.

Parties will be coming to a close now that the monsoons are setting in! Party season is pre monsoons in summers.
Thanks for the info guys.. however it is saddening !
Yeah it is a little saddening!
Thanks for the heads up KulluKid. But, regardless I do not think I can resist the mountains! I reckon I will head straight up there and soak in as much of the scenery as possible before the cold gets too brutal for me. Then I guess venture down south to Goa for some nice psy parties and sunny beaches.
Any places in particular will be good to hang out at this time of the year in Himachal Pradesh? More specifically Parvati Valley?

Also majority of the places will not have room heater options. Purchase a electric blanket with suitable plugging before venturing.

If it's mountain scenery you want then head upto Pulga & Kalga villages, these are at the end of the road of the parvati valley, take a bus from Manikaran to Bershani Kalga is 15mins walk Pulga 30mins,porters will be waiting at the bus stand let them carry your bags it's a bit of a trek, again both villages will be quiet at this time, the weather is usually not too bad in Dec but Jan/Feb get very cold.If you stay in Manikaran stay at one of the hotels which have baths from the hotsprings,if you get some empty glass bottles you can fill them from the baths & use them as hot water bottles.

Hey Grr.. if you're looking for psy parties then you should consider heading to Rajastan during the second week of December 2012 for the Alpha Kumba Aum Festival which is likely to happen on the 12th of December untill the 24th. 12days of non stop madness!

Oh yes i am! Planning on spending the first 10days at Kasol and then heading to Rajastan for the festival. Cant afford to miss it. I'm sure Goa would be happening as well throughout the month however from Christmas to New years would be the best time to be in Goa because of Sunburn and the new year parties.
Cool man. Well maybe we can meet up around Kasol in early December. Im pretty certain ill be floating around those parts for a few weeks. I will most definitely avoid Goa until well after new years. Looks far too hectic and expensive :$$$. Sunburn festival looks the same as some festivals we have here in Australia, not my thing. I prefer the real nature parties
And not so big.

And not so big.
