You can either go by bus direct to Palampur or by train to Chakki Bank (110 kms) or Pathankkot (120 kms) and then bus to Palampur.
There is also an option of flying to Gaggal around 35 kms from Palampur.

Palampur has tea gardens and is very green with good views of the Dhauladhar mountains....

Nearby Baijnath temple is very good !

Chamunda Temple is also nearby, which is situated in a Hindu Crematorium (shamshan). It was supposed to be a highly potent seat for Tantra Sadhna. very charged setting.....

Them Mcleodganj is also not far from here......

Palampur is beautiful. Nestled in a valley, overlooking Dhauladhar. There arent many places to go to but if you just want to spend a few days in serenity and calmness, may be.

You can go to near-by places though for a day trip may be. Some of the places are:

1. Dharamshala/Mcleod
2. Norbulingka Institute
3. Bir-Billing

Also check out Cloud's end Villa. Beautiful place to stay at and has great views. very pleasant.

http://www.cloudsendvilla.com/index.html - Clouds end is not in palampur per se but close to it. A great place to stay at nevertheless.

FYI, Clouds end villa can be booked through makemytrip.com or by contacting the hotel directly.
Cheers

You can take a train to Pathankot. From there the narrow gauge train to Maranda is 4 km from the town. Distance from Pathankot is 115 km.
From Delhi by road the distance is 545 km.
Kangra airport is 37 km from Palampur. Kingfisher airlines and Jagson airlines operate flights from Delhi.
