Overnight Accomodation in Kalka
Hi all, I'm hoping somebody can advise me on the avaliabiliy of overnight accomodation in Kalka.
I'm hoping to take the 2005 KALKA SHTBDI from New Delhi at 17:15 arriving at 21:15 and then take the 06:00 from Kalka to Shimla. I dont want to get offin Kalka and not be able to find somewhere to stay that night, I'll be arriving from the UK that day (september 13th) Thanks for any advise offered. Dave ![]() |

Kalka should be having a few small guest houses, I am not aware of any decent hotel there. However, just 2 kms. away is Parwanoo, which offers good accomodation in the form of HPTDC's Hotel Shivalik.
If your programme is flexible, then a better way to reach Shimla is to travel from Delhi by the overnight Kalka Mail(dep.Old delhi station at 22=45) and reach Kalka at 05=00 next morning. Then take either the 05=30 Shivalik Deluxe or the 06=00 to Shimla. A nighthalt at Kalka can be eliminated.

Re Overnight Accomodation in Kalka
Shimla, thanks very much for the response. I saw the overnight train from Delhi but to be honest wanted to get out asap after arriving from the UK, I'm not sure that I could handle an overnight flight from the UK, then another full 10 hours of hanging aroud Delhi waiting for the 10PM train - still not sure.
The other option I was considering was staying the on Delhi for one night then heading the following day - but that involves a full day of travelling. Who knows, cheers Dave |

What time does your flight arrive in Delhi ?
You may try the 2925 Paschim Express the same day, which leaves New Delhi at 11=00 and reaches Kalka at 16=05. You may then take a share taxi to Shimla and reach Shimla by 19=30 or thereabouts. The downside of this plan is that in case there are no other tourists to share the taxi with, you may have to hire it entirely for yourself, the cost is approx. Rs.1200/-. And if you do travel by the Paschim Express, ensure that you travel by the AC 3-Tier coach marked for Kalka, as the major portion of the train goes to Amritsar, a small portion goes to Kalka, bifurcating at Ambala Cantt. All the best ! |
