Noida - Sangla via Dehradun, Chakrata?

I'm planning to go to Spiti Valley this summer. As I don't wish to go and return via same route, I'm considering reaching Sangla via Noida-Dehradun-Chakrata route. Return can be via Manali-Chandigarh route.

Can some of the forum members provide feedback on this route - in terms of road condition, drive time and stay options? Thanks in advance.

Dehradun to Chakrata you can go via Vikasnagar or via Mussoorie. I suggest the latter, where you can have the first night stay (considering your father is going along). You could also plan a night-stay at Chakrata if you think another 3 hours won't be too hectic.

As I mentioned on another thread a little earlier, Chakrata to Tiuni road condition can be iffy. If you want to avoid that completely, you can go to Paonta Sahib and then up NH 72B to Tiuni via Sataun/Shilai. In that case you might be better off spending the first night at Paonta, there's an HPTDC there.

I guess this was discussed on some thread. Last I went on this road, it was terrible..but somebody mentioned that the road is in perfect condition lately, so that can be tried. It's a good journey with minimal traffic.
