Knowing you have 4 days and 4 kids with you and you wish to cover so many places the whole itinerary looks tight.
One shot from Kalpa to Patiala looks long to me; normally the return journey is charmless and more tiring. Also am afraid that with a BIG group on a single day from Sarahan you won't be able to do Kalpa/Sangla and Chitkul; you will have to cut down on places you want to visit.

One suggestion would be to keep Narkanda for the return journey; plan one shot to Patiala from Kalpa as you have originally planned for; take a halt at Narkanda incase one shot journey looks long.

You too? What a coincidence Ashish.

We are also tentatively planning a similar trip except it would be from and to Chandigarh instead of Patiala, and our trip would be much longer than 4 days, we hope! Ive also posted some queries about Sarahan & Sangla in this same forum.

Ive spent a week at Narkanda in 2010 Apr. and it was really lovely, well worth a halt. You can go through this if interested:
http://blog.travelpod.com/travel-blog/indianature/25/tpod.html

However, since you have just 4 days in hand, I can understand if you want to go through to Sarahan.

Ill be keeping an eye on your thread too for ideas.

Happy planning!

Thanks nkothiyal for the quick reply.

So as per your suggestion too many places for 4 Day Trip and that too with 4 Kids. Should I skip Sarahan or Sangla/Kalpa ??

Assuming I keep Narkanda for the return leg in that case one should pit stop at Sarahan first and on Day 2 proceed to Sangla/Kalpa. Relax and Unwind Day3 @Sangla/Kalpa and local sightseeing proceed to Narkanda in the evening.

Day 4 Leave for Patiala in the Afternoon thereby cutting your big journey bit short.

Now the main question Is Sarahan a better place to stay than Narkanda or you are better off doing Narkanda twice?

Yes Gita Madam I am also planning a HP Trip during April 2012 but only for 4 Days. Well this trip was tentative earlier it got confirmed last night. It's a big family trip with Mom, Bro & Sis + Family and My Four Muskteers (My Nephew & Niece)...Should be Great Fun. Actually had seen your threads for planning your HP Trip. Will take notes from your Narkanda thread.

So if you have to choose between Narkanda & Sarahan for relaxing and unwinding. What will you chose Narkanda or Sarahan ???

Should be great fun with Four Musketeers!

How can I comment about Sarahan, Ive never been there. You can see some informed opinions from others who have been there in my Sarahan & Sangla threads.

That we spent a week in Narkanda speaks volumes for my opinion of that area, I loved it, there was so much to do, to enjoy, but it depends on what you want.

For our family the priority is long and peaceful walks in natural, forest surroundings, plenty of wildflowers, clean, cool and fresh air, great scenery. For Buddhe Log, it is perfect.

The musketeers may want something more entertaining, no? Nonetheless, Im sure they will enjoy the drive upto Hatu Peak and a short or long walk up there.

Definitely this Trip is for the Four Musketeers...They are very angry with me after seeing the Diveagar Beach Pics

Well even I prefer those nature walks, playing adjacent to a river bank and a little bit of Trekking. Hatu Peak is surely on the Agenda..Let's see how it pans out.

Ohhh So you have not been to Sarahan, I though you covered it in your last trip. Anyways will seek others advice on Sarahan. Although I am more inclined towards Narkanda.

Ashish

I would prefer staying in Narkanda; its a lovely place. Between Sangla between Sangla my preference would be for Sangla any day. It's a lovely valley and offers a few lovely walks around.

Though nothing beats location of HPTDC property at Kalpa; it's situated on an amazing location.

Well in Kalpa I would love to stay @HPTDC's Hotel Kinner Kailash for the Best View of Kinner Kailash Although not very cost effective but it is the Best Property in Kalpa.

But it all depends on the itinerary...If we are spending two nights @ Sangla/Kalpa or only one...Not sure abt a good accommodation @ Sangla

Got these from some other T'Logs (Dont know weather these are current rates or older)

Monal Regency Sangla 10 Beds Rs. 500/- to 900/-
Mount Kailash Sangla 12 Beds Rs. 450/- to 700/-
Sangla Resort Sangla 10 Beds Rs. 350/- to 500/-
Baspa Guest House Sangla 10 Beds Rs. 250/- to 400/-
Rupin View Rakchham 8 Beds Rs. 150/- to 400/-
Banjara Camps Sangla 36 Beds Rs. 900/- to 1350/-
Kinnaur Camps Rakchham 16 Beds Rs. 500/- to 900/-

For Narkanda I am enquiring about the Circuit House (Supposed to have the best location) although not sure if it is accessible for us, otherwise HPTDC's Hotel Hatu or Hotel Mahamaya will be good enough.

I guess we will, You mentioned that you will also be starting on April 5th from Chandigarh. Gita Madam, you have good chance of meeting the Four Muskteers

Well now giving two days to Sangla/Kalpa and trying to reach Sangla on Day 1 if possible and will do Narkanda on way back. This will allow us to break the long journey also.

Yes Hotel Kinner Kailash is the Best Propery with Amazing Views of Kinner Kailash

Thanks for the inputs Naveen.

Found abt another good Hotel in Kalpa Hotel Golden Apple its Near Hotel Kinner Kailash only. Well seems like a good place and it is Value for Money.

So your dates are not finalised yet...Finalize it soon Madam. I am just hoping that Spring Season sets in on time so that one can enjoy the Majestic Views of Kinnaur
