Nearby place to visit from Manali

Hi
I am new to this site.I am planning to visit Manali in May end/June for 5nights/6days.I have few questions.
Apart from the local sightseeing,Rohtang,Solang Valley,Manikaran, is there any other serene location I can visit?
Like from Shimla, one can visit Kufri,Narkanda etc. which are bit secluded and also very picturesque.I want to know about some similar destinations which can be visited from Manali apart from the above mentioned ones.
I will be travelling with my hubby for the first time.
Kindly also tell the details how to visit those places and where to stay....

Thankx in advance.

I have decided to stay in hotel iceland at 13km from manali in solang this june after rreading several good reviews. Just search for hotel iceland.Another option is treehouse cottages.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.

now that i've gotten your attention - DONT go to Solang. It is a sorry place overrun totally by tourists. In Jan there was "some" snow at Iceland. I doubt if it'd have much more.

For quiet, instead try to book the PWD rest houses at Kothi/Marhi. There's a private hotel enroute there as well.

There are HPTDC hotels which are decent, and not too bad. Rohtang manalsu's 1000 buck rooms are decent. Ditto for the one next door. IM has many recommendations as well.

I'd much rather suggest Vashisht for the simple pleasure of hot springs and comparatively less chaos. But its a very individual thing, really.

Is it so bad??? [I] did read some good reviews from travellers about it's location. And the owner told me the place is comparitively far off from the paragliding scene.

No yaar. Please check again. The upper reaches would have snow - which is why, Marhi/Kothi - not Solang.

Solang is this ugly place (with lotsa beauty around) where endless queues of vehicles come, and people "ski" in the middle of snow/slush.

That was january. I don't expect anything left by now.

Iceland is okay, but solang if overrun by tourists isnt the best place around. YMMV

PS: PM tsk1979 who just came back. or see his log on teambhp or bcmtouring
