Please let me know about Narkanda or anywhere close by in the cool mountains.

We are planning to go by road from Chandigarh but do not want a long drive. Someone suggested Narkanda as a quiet scenic place to stay.

Any feedback on The Hatu hotel. Also, what is there to see and do in the area which does not involve long drives. Any forests, meadows, places for quiet walks?

We have about a week and will return to Delhi. Another suggestion was Chail.

I have no idea about this region so would appreciate all feedback.

We are not interested in Shimla or any place which is built up and crowded.

Looking for natural surroundings, walking [not trekking/mountain climbing], great views, and a respite from Mumbai's awful weather!

Thanks

Narkanda - or anywhere nice in the vicinity

hi,
nice place for a weekend getaway thing..I went there last dec. Cant give any feedback on hatu hotel as we stayed at HP PWD guest house in the market area. The Hatu hotel requires an advance booking from Simla i think which i overlooked.

As for areas around Narkanda, i know only of Hatu Peak...serenity personified. Its an 8 kms and almost 700 mtrs [@3400mtrs]ascent from a road that branches to the right at an elevation. the road is less suited for 4 wheelers as it is quite narrow. As for Chail, you could visit it enroute Narkanda, if you take a right turn from Kandaghat [post Solan]. Following this route you'll bypass Shimla and end up on NH 22 via Kufri. Here's a pic of Hatu Peak

Grincha - for some reason I couldn't get the image to open, so I have turned it into a link. Large pics are not to be posted in threads anyway - if you like you can change it to a thumbnail. The link is working well, however!

Thanks Grincha. Beautiful mountain view in your photo. Looking forward to our trip. If you have any more info about less frequented places in the vicinity, I would appreciate it. Thanks

I found this link which has quite a bit of information.

We went and picked up maps and brochures from the HP tourism office here. The Rohru area and Jallori Pass sound interesting. I understand that apple blossoms should be in full bloom now and wildflowers too. We leave Sunday, Chail is out as its too crowded so it will be Narkanda with a night at Kasauli to break the long drive back to Delhi.

Hatu/narkanda

hatu hotel is good and the walk from the hotel to Hatu peak is a great way to embrace the local scenery.

Hello

If the hotel is a criteria then definitely Tethys Resort is a better idea ... www.narkandaresort.com ... and definitely though Narkanda is a great place, nearby options are not less, a trip to Kotgarh and Thanedar with a stop over for a Chai at tani Jubbar ... A hike to hatu peak and walk to Jaubagh is a must , you can drive back down or may be drive up and walk down .. Baghi and Khadrala are awesome ... Apple blossoms were in bloom this year as early as april first week and would be there still ...
There is another place on the way to Hatu which is also quite good, though electricity can be a problem .. AGYAATVAAS .. and it actually means its name ...

Nobody ever considers Chindi ... Thats an awesome place to unwind, Hotel Mamleshwar (HPTDC is good) The PWD guest house is awesome and Hotel Gopal is Good, simple but has a friendly staff. Chindi is about an hours drive from tattapani ... Its a great destination for monsoons with misty mountains, however even for summers its a great place with small orchards .. Hotel Gopal is actually amidst a big apple orchard , Amazing place

I dont know how much time you have, guessing its a short stay I would go for

Shimla- Narkanda
Narkanda - Kotgarh - Narkanda
Narkanda - Luhri - tattapani - Chindi
Chindi
Chindi - Naldehra - Craignano (camp at Craignano is an awesome place)
Craignano - Depart Shimla

enjoy .. Cheers,
Dhananjay

Thanks everyone. I had a wonderful trip far exceeding what we expected. Will post a report when back. Roasting in Delhi's tandoori oven weather right now - what a contrast to chilly Narkanda!!!

Ive separated the entries and tried to let the photos do the talking, keeping the text to the minimum. Still have to load my pics on Flickr, that will take awhile.
