Narkanda & Fagu

I mid dec 09 I want to travel to Narkanda from Shimla and stay for 2 days and thereafter from Narkanda to Fagu and stay for 2 day and finally back to kalka from Fagu on the 5th day. Should I keep a car for these 5 days with me for travel and local siteseeing. Kindly suggest.
1. Can you suggest a good car rental at shimla from where I can hire a reliable car (for 3 persons)?
2. What is the rate per day/ package cost for 5 days for car rental.
3. During mid Dec 09 can I travel directly from Manali to Narkanda ie, bypassing Shimla? I heard that there is a road thro jalori pass - does it remain open during mid dec.

Why hire a car and get fleeced by taxiwallahs when u are coming from Kalka which is nearby from Shimla. Take ur car and enjoy ur trip at ur own terms.
Yes u can go straight from Manali by Jalori, but suspect it will be snow laden by Dec. But realy can't antipicate weather precisely these days. Check the weather conditions and decide then only.

Just to clarify for the OP - Nearby means about 3 - 3.5 hours of driving depending on stops.
