mcleodganj solo female traveler
As of now, after doing a lot of research I am more inclined towards staying at bhagsu ( away from the hustle bustle of the main town but yet within 2 kms )and to join a 3 days non residential meditation course at tushita.
but I'm afraid as I'd prefer a female buddy...hope you are !

ok sure, so what are the exact days you are planing and wat about the mode of travelling will be?
I am planning to go somewhere in the first week of june, and I'd take a volvo from chadigarh as I need to meet a friend.
what about from delhi to chandigarh......and where will i join you from Delhi or Chandigarh or directly dharamshala?

You wont be "alone" when in mcleodganj, the place is full of tourists. Unless you are in the forest in dharamkot or Bhagsunath. Triund is a good option to walk around. Otherwise above mcleodganj there are some great forests. “What we need is the development of the Inner Spiritual man, the unique individual, whose treasure is hidden in the symbols of our mythological tradition and in man’s unconscious psych.” - CJ Jung

Hello Preeti...
Mcleod Ganj is a lovely place. Hopefully mid june would mean the kids are back in school and drop in Indian tourist traffic (though weekends tend to be crowded).
There were some issues reported about the operation of volvo service (not operating on a daily basis), hope that is sorted out.
It is a relatively safe place and you can venture alone. The Volvo bus would drop you at the Dharamshala Bus station (which is Lower Dharmashala). You need to take a local bus (quiet frequent) or a shared jeep - its a 30min ride and costed me Rs.10
I would suggest the Pink House or Ladies Venture. Mcleod is a small place and you can circle the entire area in 30min. There are many guest houses and small hotels. I would also recommend the Green Hotel/Kunga Guest House.
It does rain a lot, evenings are chilly, so have a rain jacket for sure. Tushita is located towards
Dharamkot (10min drive by auto @Rs.50). I think the Osho campus is relatively far off and can be pricey.
I wrote about my trip on India Mike...it has relevant links which will be useful. It's a lovely place and friendly people. If you would like to volunteer, you can meet up Jodie Underhill - founder of Mountain Cleaners based in Bhagsu..they do hikes to Triund and other places for clean up drives...She is a lovely lady and I have met her personally...

My only input would be not to venture out on lonely roads after dark (there are not many street lights), so you do need a flash light.
Mcleod Ganj, Dharmkot, Bhagsu have their own eating places, so its not a problem to visit that area itself, but the roads from Mcleod to Dharmkot or Bhagsu are not well lit.
If you have any questions, feel free to PM me.
