Mcleodganj Hotel recommendation for family holidaying

I intend to spend a week beginning 16th June 2007 in Mcleodganj along with family.

I need some recommendations on decent economic budget hotel for family stay. I read some reviews on OM hotel, Green Hotel of Mcleodganj. Are these Hotels are reasonably OK for a family holiday? I am not looking for luxury.

I made booking with Pemathang guesthouse which charges Rs.1320/- perday for two double bedrooms. I would be happy if I get two double bedrooms for Rs.900-1000/- per day.

Anybody can help with valuable suggestions??

Thanks

McLeodjang is a bit on the expensive side thanks to overseas vistors coming to see Dalai Lama. If you are open to staying at Dharamshala - the HPt toursim has an excellent hotel which was the palace of Maharaja of Kashmir they offer off season discounts of upt 30% on the tariff and you will be able to get a good room in the vicinity of 700 INR

but June is the season in that region..as lot of Indian tourists go there for cool environs..to escape the north Indian heat wave..

I've stayed twice in Tibet hotel. The rooms are quite shabby but the staff is very friendly and the restaurant is good. Also the location is central.

Hi Harimakesh,

I have just spent 12 wonderful days in McLeod Ganj, staying at Hotel Annexe. This is a great hotel, run my Majeed and his brother who couldn't be more helpful. It's right in the heart of everything, about a 5-10 minute walk to the Dalai Lama's Temple.) Not to mention wonderful views from the hotel rooftop restaurant.)

Pics of the hotel can be found on their website and also has there contact details: www.himalayafunandtours.com

Honestly a great place to stay. My favourite hotel so far on my trip and the most comfortable bed I've slept in in India.

Cheers,
Putty

Bhagsunath just above Mcleod is a cheaper quieter option, i use Seven Seas G/H at RS3-350 it's very clean with large tiled rooms with large bathrooms & balconies it also has a good rooftop restaurant. KK

A week in McLeodganj? You can do everything there is to do there in a day, and it's not as if it's a particularly nice place.

Yes it's very nice but a bit pricey with large rooms, friendly staff & in a fairly quiet location. The restaurant is excellent! KK

Is it alright to wait till one gets there to find a nice, cheap place (in Bhagsu or Dharamkot, perhaps), or is it better to book in advance? Most places dont seem to do advance booking. We'll need a place from 26 Jun - 2 July -- is this a busy time?

Thanks KK. Is Bhagsu far from Dharamkot? We were rather looking forward to staying in Dharamkot -- something attracted us to it . Do you think finding a place to stay 10 days before we need it would be good enough? We're doing a Vipassana course when we get there, and will only need accomodation after those 10 days. We'll have the morning before that to look around for accomodation.

Thanks

You can walk uphill through the woods from Bhagsu to Dharamkot in about 20 mins, 10 days advance notice should be plenty, i wouldnt panic about booking you will always find somewhere in Bhagsu or Dharamkot. kk
