Question McLeod Ganj in November, weather and accommodation ?

Hi everyone,

I will be in McLeod Ganj late November , I am wondering how cold the weather will be? Will it be snowing? Excuse my ignorance but I have no idea and since I will be travelling very lightly with just a backpack, I want to make sure the few clothes I pack are suitable.

Also has anyone stayed at the Norling Guest House? Everything is pretty much booked out already for HH Dalai Lama visit so finding accomodation is proving to be difficult.

Thanks

Sarah

Late November will be cold, but not snowing. Carry suitable woolens.

For stay you may look for Chonor House also.

Hi Star Emperor! I'll be there too from mid November onwards. My third visit! I also haven't booked any accommodation, as previously there always was plenty of choice on the day. I didn't know that HH is giving teachings in November though. In that case, it would be wise to book as soon as possible!

How long are you planing on staying in Mcleodganj?

If it is just for a week or so, then the Annex Hotel in Hotel Bhagsu Road is great. I stayed there for a few days last year. It's clean, in a quiet location yet close to everything, there's plenty of hot water for showers, and a comfy bed. Choose the standard room, it is as good as the deluxe. Prices around 800 INR

Here's a link to some pics of their rooms:

Up a little further on the same road is Kareri Lodge. More expensive but also good. Tel: +91 1892 221132

Next door is Pema Thang Guest House, which is also very good.
Tel: +91 1892 221871 pemathanghouse@yahoo.com

Try their very pleasant restaurant. Great sunset views over the Kangra Valley and H H residence, and a nice choice of tasty Tibetan dishes. The momos are wonderful and so is the green salad

In another part of town, on Jogibara Road, central but a little more noisy, is the very good value Takhyil Hotel. Tel: +91 1892 221152

I stayed in Norling Guesthouse for a few nights in the middle of winter - December and there was no hot water...

The weather in November last year was exceptionally mild. Even January, normally the coldest month, was nothing! I didn't need to pull on my gloves or hat. Just a jacket was enough. But one never knows with the changing weather pattern. This coming winter may be a colder one. You can get plenty of colorful knitted clothing in Mcleod, and thermal underwear too, in case you need it.

Thanks for all the hotel info! I really don't want to take a jacket with me, i have a polartek hoodie which is quite warm so hopefully that will do.

I will be there Nov 23-25th . I planned to be there for HH teachings which are apparently happening Nov 24& 25th. Now i'm thinking I might do one day of teachings and do the day trek to Triund. Have you done this trek before?

What dates are you planning on being there?

Sarah

HI Sarah

I'll be there for many weeks, including the time you're there! I'm almost a local in Mcleodganj, having already lived there for a year in total Well, perhaps not quite a local, but hope to be!

I'm looking forward to trekking up to Triund soon. It's an easy and lovely climb, so I've heard.

Hi,

I have looked into those hotels you suggested and there are still rooms available at all. Which one do you suggest? I dont mind paying a little extra for comfort!

If you want to do Triund as a day trek on any of those days let me know!

Hi Sarah

Annex is a bit closer. Pema Thang is only a few houses further up the road, which is a little bumpy and dark to walk back to if you're out at night, but it's not a big issue. Pema Thang does have that very nice restaurant, so that may be the deciding factor for you!

I would take whichever is cheaper out of the two. Both are good. Just ask for a quiet room. I stayed in room 403 at Annex Hotel which was quiet and clean.

We can keep in touch and maybe trek to Triund

Ahh me again, I have been inforned that Pema Thang is now full and that Annex & Kareri do not have AC rooms available.

Do you need an AC room at that time of year (late November) ?

thanks for the advice everyone!
