Manali - Manikaran - Bijli Mahadev - Mandi
Hello....
I already have a trip planned for Himachal starting on July 7th. I know it'll be a hectic and very busy day but I need your advice if following is possible/recommended/or even worth trying? Leave Manali in the morning for Manikaran - Then leave Manikaran by 2:00 pm and go for Bijli Mahadev Trek - back by 7:00pm and leave for Mandi and on the way stop at Kullu Shawl Factory. I read that Bijli Mahadev is a 2KM trek(1200 Steps) from Jansar village and would take around 1.5 - 2 hours - Can someone please verify if it's true. If answer is yes: What time I should start from Manali in the morning and how long does it take to reach Manikaran? How much time I need to spend at Manikaran? Is Jansari village the closest to start a climb for Bijli Mahadev or there are other options? How far is Jansari village from Manikaran? Last edited by sb_amd_us : Jun 27th, 2008 at 04:32. |

I can answer the 1st two questions for you considering if it is yes.
You dont have to go to manali after all for manikaran. it lies in parvati valley which is approached through bhuntar ....unless you want to cross bhuntar and head 55 Km for manali and come back 55KM which doesnt make any sense then its a different scenario...but otherwise you should head straight to manikaran from bhuntar. its 40 Km from Bhuntar bus stand. The time you need to spend in manikaran is quite subjective, i never spend more then 20 minute there, visit the gurudwara and come out..It totally up to you how much time you want to spend there. Cheers |

Dee...Thanks. I'm starting from Manali and ending in Mandi(not Manali..hence not driving back but rather moving ahead for the continuation of my trip to Dharamshala).

Jansari Village is the Closet Point to Start the Bijli Mahadev trek.
Approx Distance B/w manikaran & Jansari would be 72 Kms. Also From jansari ti Bijli Mahadev there is about 2 Hrs Trek |

Hi if you are coming from manali keep to the nagger side and as you reach gammon bridge in kullu your find the road to bijly mahadev.Roads are ok but are still being worked on as they are trying to get the road to the temple from gammon bridge it should take you around 40 mins driving then depending on your fitness its a steep climb for around 30-40 mins if fit 1hr 30 if your not theres plenty of refreshments on the way. From there I would drive back to gammon bridge keeping on the side you came and drive to jeear about 15 mins from there their is a new bridge thats crossers after the bhunter bridge so no need to go to bhunter until you return back from jeear to manikaran takes around 1hr to 1 hr 30 min depending on traffic which this time of year is loads. To drive to manakiran from manali then visiting bijly mahadev will involve you coming back on yourself plus after treking to bijly mahadev it will be humid so a nice bath in manakiran would end a nice day out .
P.s I am a resident of kullu |

Balvar/Kullu Gang: Thanks a lot for your information. I'm starting from Manali and ending my day in Mandi NOT Manali. I do not know routes from each location so please let me know which one I should visit first Bijli or Manikaran from Manali? I do not want to back track any routes if possible. I thought Manali - Manikaran - Bjli Mahadev - Mandi will be ideal but please clarify/verify/suggest. I'm stopping for a night halt in Mandi for my onward journey to Dharamshala. Thanks

Hi SB go manali drive on the nagger side to kullu go bijly mahadev then on to manikaran keep on the left side of the back as its quite traffic free the other side is busy as it goes through the bazzars of kullu , have a nice bath in manikaran then on to Mandi .
1) Manali - Jansari 2 hrs 2) Jansari - Bijly Mahadev 1-2 hrs 3) Bijly mahadev - Jansari 40 mins 4) Jansari - Manikaran 2hrs depending on traffic 5) Manikaran - Mandi 3-4 hrs Have a lovely day Kind Regards Kullu Gang |

Jai Bijly Mahadev have a good trip look forward to hearing about it.
P.S If you have time when you get to Manikaran and you feel for a bit of peace and quite head on towards Pulga theres plenty of little places to stop and relax and the scenary is wild. Last edited by brownboy66 : Jun 29th, 2008 at 13:50. Reason: merged sequential posts |

Ok, this is late becos I was travelling when this thread was started, but if you read this before going to Naggar/Bijli, sb ---
There is a narrow road from Naggar that takes you within a few hundred metres of Bijli Mahadev, as I was informed by locals in 2005. I do NOT mean the main Naggar-Ramshila/Tapu road along the left bank of the Beas, this is a separate road which starts in the village. The only drawback is that you have to back-track to Naggar to move further. |

Aha. Does that mean the road is in disrepair and undriveable, or there's a ban on using it?
