Low budget accomodation in Shimla, any ideas?:)

Hello all,

I must admit, this forum has helped a lot in shaping up my forthcoming trip to HP/Chd/Delhi

I'm looking for recommendations/ideas for a low budget accomodation(maximum 200 rupees a night) in Shimla, in the Mall area during early Sept. 2005..any ideas anyone? I have been adviced that becos its off-season, many hotels do give away good discounts, however, can anyone recommend a name and address of a hotel that has been tried and tested and is cheap?

Hope i'm not asking for too much

Thanks in advance

just take a stroll down the Mall its lined up with hotels.. you will get a pretty decent room in 200 rs. You will hav to be firm and bargain a bit though....

Thanks for the tip

I've found out the Shimla Youth Hostel which offers online booking, and which looks pretty decent and affordable. Has anybody here stayed there yet? Is it recommended?

It is located near the police post, lakkar bazar, Shimla. Is this the city center?

Thanks in advance

Hi

Hi,
Hotel Fontaine Blue 200-330 INR below the State bank of India central Mall ... Hotel City view, Woodland and Dreamland all in Jakhoo area 10mins from the main Mall ... these are the good options ... however I would still vouch for YMCA on the ridge as the best budget acco ... 300-400 including breakfast ... right on the ridge 4 mins from the Mall ...

Cheers,
Dhananjay

Thanks dhananjay!

I guess the YMCA you mentioned and the Shimla Youth Hostel I mentioned are one and the same? It sounds like the best option. They have an online booking facility at www.yhai.org . Kindly clarify if it is the same so i can proceed with booking it

Perhaps you could tell me what the weather would be like around the 5th of Sept? Any chance of seeing residual snow atleast in Kufri?

Hi

Hi,
No chance of snow ... however if you like wetaher with mist all around and periodical splashes of rain then the weather would be like that in Early september ... The YMCA is on the ridge which is the centre of the town ... and it is same as the YHAI booking ... You should proceed with the booking ... No snow but I can assure it would be great to spend 3-4 days in Shimla in September ... theres something in the air in those months ... Happy traveling ..

Cheers,
Dhananjay
