There are several with 7x optical zoom. Mine is the Canon PowerShot S1 IS. Check out my moon pics on this thread for what this camera can do in the unsteady hand of a complete novice photographer...

Umm, coming on as my bitchy old self, but there were some early and apt remarks here about a prospective visitor getting himself into prospective trouble with the local pah-leez.
That's all well and good and his business, but imagine your amusement at being a local salesman & having your whereabouts publically advertized for eternity on some goofy forum without your permission. Just a word to the wise if you catch my drift. As in "hey guys I know this really swell peddler in..." etc. In a word, uncool. ps If it hasn't been brought up before this guy has some relevant chapters on the you-know-what: http://www.roadjunky.com/, more specifically here and here.

Hi Scotsman, you mentioned in your first post that you were going to stay in India for 6mths & would probably visit Kerala after Xmas, do you intend to stay in Parvati & Manali area until then or are you going to move about? If so i'd strongly recommend that you pay a visit to Mcleod Gange/Dharamsala where the Dalai Lama lives, i'm sure you'd love the scene there especially in Bhagsu & Dharamkot, it's very easy to get to from Kullu area, if you are interested let me know & i'll send you some details. KK

i am having no real luck in finding yoga ashrams near manali, dharamshala. I mean there are few but they ot the type you get in Rishikesh. and the Vipasana yoga centre is too hardcore, you are not allowed to talk to anyone while you living in the ashram. Anyways, i am flying on tuesday won't be able to post from UK as i have left my flat and hence no internet access but i will surely post from Himachal. please passing on the travel tips. thanks |

Hi!
Sorry I havent been on to acknowledge the replies of late ive not had much of a chance.... Actually was nearly not going to go because I got offered a house.... and originally accepted it, but i'm going to India and will be back on the temporarily homeless list when I come back! unless I can persuade my parents il never grow my secret herbs in there house ever again ... I'm going to india for 4 months instead of taking a council house basically Well thats the 6th today, 24 days from my flight! I have read a bit about mcleod gange and dharamasala... I quite fancy a trek up there. Is the dalai lama there? can you speak to him? if so is there not huge queues?? Ive had a look at maps etc and cant find dharamasala.... Is it in the kullu/parvati valley? I have found its in himachal thats all I can get - but its another calling place in the indian adventure Im really no sure what I'l be doing... what the plan is. So far its go to kashol first and spend some time in this area, up in the mountains smoking the finest weed in the world pondering life. But where after that? I DONT KNOW! I dont want to be in this area for the full 4 months but I definitely do til xmas possibly? maybe a bit longer if I like it. Do any of you's know if its realistic to bus/train down to vietnam/thailand/cambodia? That idea is interesting and I do want to be in warmer climates for some of my trip. Where in India is there sunny beaches and palm trees (apart from goa )By the way I think I did ask this before but just to double check. I know the area is high altitide and prone to snow. But what exactly should I take in terms of clothing. I was going to take a warm waterproof jacket jeans and boots as my "heavy duty" clothes for colder weather. Simple question : Is that enough? How cold is it going to get?? Ive just noticed you're away grizzly - if you come back and check this - good luck mate! I will send you an email when im in Kashol mate I just got my last jap B jag today, only 1 more jags appointment to go now, my final rabies booster! No wait, my BCG on tuesday where I have to travel to glasgow to get after my heath test came back with me needing it (local surgeries do not do this anymore my nurse told me, but my glaswegian dr told me different and was not happy being landed with "yet another one" - although his anger was directed at higher places and no me)Travel insurance to sort out, and my indian visa, and malaria tablets. Sh1t thats quite a bit I better get the finger oot especially the visa! I will hopefully have the malarias bought by tomorrow and my mum n dad are paying for the travel insurance and maybe jags too (they said they would a week ago, but now its "WE'LL SEE" ) cos its about £200 I thinkPS. Anyone know if there is any cross country runs/marathons in this area? I doubt there will be but I hope there is something laters kieran |
