PHEW!,Wow Keiran, from dope fiend to Dharma bum, is this what they call a life changing experience?
Sounds like you'll soon be wearing red robes, if you don't leave quick Seriously though it's probably a good idea not to be carrying anything as you head back to Delhi, probably wise to leave well alone until Goa. From Pathankot or even from Dharamsala you could pay a quick visit to Dalhousie & Chamba, don't forget the Golden Temple at Amritsar on the way back down, also check out the toy train from Kangra to Pathankot, much more enjoyable than the bus.Take care KK |

Very interesting, and I particularly like Kieran's observation that "Parvati cream sure is good, but just maybe this country is better."
True enlightenment.Kieran also said,"Another thing that stood out yesterday which I found a bit funny was the Tibetan Dalai Lama security bodyguard people. Most Tibetans are short, slight, unnasuming people. These lads remind me of a bruce lee film." Heh. Sounds like he ran into some Khampa boys ... the opposite of short, slight and unassuming, to be sure! But I as an American, I could have done without the Yank bashing, so please get off your high-horse, laddie. I had an almost identical experience with yapping tourists the last time I was in McLeod Ganj, not at a teaching but at a puja conducted by the Dalai Lama for the Indian Army (!). During the chanting, some "twenty-somethings" sitting next to me just wouldn't shut the f*** up, so I turned to them and hissed, "Will you please be quiet. People are trying to pray here. Would you do this if you were at a church service in your own country? If you want to yak, please go outside." They looked at me (stunned), looked at each other, got up and left. They were NOT Americans. They were British. And as for the self-important American woman in the museum ... if you think that behavior is uniquely American, you need to get out more. So while I've enjoyed your account of your adventures so far, please don't let a sense of your own self-perceived superiorty infect you ... THAT wouldn't be in line with the Dalai Lama's teachings, now, would it? ![]() Last edited by dzibead : Nov 30th, 2006 at 10:29. |

Scotsman should know
that these were not regular teachings but the Highest Tantric Initiations of Gelugkpa. That means that apart from the luck he had to receive them and this precious opportunity of being attending the whole empowerment His Holiness must have told you what the commitments are.You should practise at least one of the above empowerments you received DAILY along with the commitments for the rest of your life.I guess you know that.
This happened to me when i received {half of it} the Chakrasamvara Empowerment 2 years ago again from His Holiness and i remember well before giving it, 2 continuous days He was stressing the daily commitments of the Tantra .So, i hope you will follow His wise guidance Scotsman. Also you must have the text for the daily sadhana for the repetition. How lucky you are!!!!I was about to come too but unfortunately i didn`t because my daily tantric schedule is quite heavy and didn`t want to break my commitments while receiving 3 major new empowerments & not following the pledges Good practise then

Scotsman, You are born free and remain free from any pledges. All teachings you get from anywhere are an option, and introduce you to a way of thinking. It's up to you to pick up what you feel is good for you and would make your life better. Never get bound to any pledges or anything that binds you. Remain free to do what's best for you. That's my take on it.

styler has expressed in my words- there are thousands of 'way of thinking' in India. Lot of ASHRAMS and GURUS are out there-looking for people like you and me. It depends on US...where we feel comfortable. I like OSHO very much but am not a die hard follower.

I'm right now at an internet place in Gujurat. Rajkot to be exact and its taken a 30 hour train journey from Pathankot to get here..... Its 10:49 and I get a bus to aruna at 12 (an hour) which is 10km from diu. The bus takes 8 hours to aruna and they told me its easy to get to diu from there. Diu is a tax free "portuguese enclave" with cheap rum, palm laiden beaches and gets raved about in the lonely planet! Its boiling here in gujurat. Its pitch black but it must be at least 25 outside. Quite a difference to the 5 during the day and just about freezing at night I'd been experiencing in Dalousie! My mind rapidly turned to mush as I'm shattered and the adrenaline of 2 hours ago has warned off. Typical Indian City story though. I dont like delhi and I think its not delhi I dislike, its Indian citys. (rajkot pop, 1million) I got off the train and the standard jossling from autos to get me into theyre rickshaw commensed. After being very clear that I wante taken to a hotel for 200 or less (repeated about 10 times before I finally got in) 2km down the road he and his mate take me to a 400rs a night guesthouse. They wouldnt take 200 so I walked away and went to look for one myselfe. As I handed him the 20rs which hes lucky he got after his fly move, again typical from city dwelling indians.... He started shouting "NO NO HUNDRED HUNDRED!" In delhi when I arrived I would have probably given him the 100 and taken the 400 room to boot, but after actually preparing for the inevitable, I told him that he "must be the most expensive rickshaw in india" except in my scottish pissed off tone with language far from christian. the gujuratis dont get many western tourists ad they dont seem to understand much english. I think they understood that though and didnt follow and hassle me down the street which they have done in the past!
Its not actually the citys, its the fly bastard indians and autorickshaws that just fuck you about I dont like, and blatantly try to take as much rs as they can in the short time we become aquanted. Anyway im being harranged to get off, I negotiated another hour but this time he has to close!! (its 11.10 here and its meant to shut at 10 30) I will update in more detail when I arrive in diu whts been happening for now ADIOS |

A very shattered scotsman is now in DIU!
I got here at 7 in the morning and found a guesthouse for 100 a night with a double bed. No TV and hot shower but when I showered today (for the first time in 3 days ) which is a record for me, it was a GOOD THING having no heated water as its so hot!I then rested (didnt sleep much) from about 11-5 and just got out for a gujirati thali. Which is spicier than rogan josh... and a single beer and now I've came on this but when I return its bed time (7 34pm now) as the beer has acted like a sedative. Ive not seen much as Ive said but the place has a good vibe, the weather is top notch, theres more westerners here and I've already briefly met an old SCOTTISH couple from nairn - who have been coming here for 15 years. the gujiratis are very eager to talk to me and are very proud of the "gujirati thali". Theres also an omellete man here who gives great omellete sarnis for 10rs. He gave me his 2 books with about 1000 pages in each, with amusing comments from "satisfied customers" dating from 2001 proclaiming he was the best omellete maker man in india. He is a laid back guy but takes his status as indias tastiest omellete cook very seriously and asked 3 times in a different way of asking each time, if his omellete was the best I'd had. I told him it was superb (in a different way each time) but forgot to write in his comment book. I'l do that when i return for breakfast There is no city vibe here and as I say there is many "hello" and amusing gestures from the locals who look different from the himachal pradeshi's and also seem the most unfussed indians ive came across. Probably due in no small fact its tax free and alcohol is so cheap (but ive only had 1 beer) but thats partly due to the fact ive not found anyone to drink with yet. When I arrived a guy at the hotel was there who owns a renting scooter/moped company. I can rent a moped for 125rs, a 2 stroke 50cc scooter for 150 and a brand new 4 stroke 100cc scooter for 175 A DAY!!! thats 2 pound per day!!!! Its good because the island is 21km by about 3 I think and its perfect for getting about and exploring. I was very tempted to take one there and then but I am a sensible boy and realised with no decent sleep in 3 days it was probably wise not to go careering round indian roads in a zombi ish state. But I'l be back first thing tomorrow to get a shot of the new scooter (top speed 60mph ) at 2 quid a day, superb!Being south and in the hotter parts feels a bit of a relief as it was getting colder and colder up north, but the dreaded MOSQUITO ARE BACK! as I was munching my thali they all swarmed round the bottom of my uncovered leg fighting for a good vein, I hit most of them and they seemed to take the hint and flee, but a good 4 or 5 broke through and took a quick drink from my leg and the itching has just started So after being in a comfy, yet congested carriage for 30 hours, getting a night bumpy and very uncomfy 8 hour bus journey, then for the last 12 hours resting and walking about a bit, I would say my brain needs some rest so I'm going to leave now (my hours up anyway) and sleep for a good 12 hour or so. Il report back in a few days but for now im off to get some sleep Regards kieran |

You''re better at finding good places to visit than us Indians. I've started taking cues and travel tips from you and Dr Funkestien etc. Have fun, and try to visit goa. I'm sure you'll love it. I'll be there from the Jan 15th. Styler |
