Question Life at Solan?

Hi,

I'm planning on relocating to Solan for about a year...

Any inputs?

Anything you could tell me about the weather, the society, the surroundings, night-life, the facilities available...anything at all...

I basically want to explore the north of India, and want to set up base either in Chandigarh or in Himachal Pradesh.

The only must-haves are internet, electricity and adequate water. And yes lots of greenary.

Solan is one of the places I've short-listed.

So any input you can provide, would be really helpful...

Thanks!

Well, Solan is in between Chandigarh and Shimla.
And I've heard a lot of about it being a beautiful place to explore, with pleasant weather...

Solan is kind of finished. Actually, it never started.

Go much further up. Or at least Kasauli.

I know where it is , im from Himachal..

Solan is nothing short or a congested, dirty, high on development, hot dusty place. While surrounding areas might be nice Solan is not such a place. It has an infrastructure in place i.e is a majort stop for buses, a big market but then who wants to go to the mountains and live in a place which is equivalent to Chandini chowk?

We had land at one point in Solan which was bought way back in the 1980's when one could still think of living there, but over the 90's it went to bits and we just sold it to the first decent offer which came along.

Did i say it was noisy? and hot..?

Solan , from Chandigarh, is only about 2 hours...i think you are much better basing yourself there, or Kasauli or even higher up like Shimla itself maybe, or Kandaghat area etc..

Thanks for this! Much appreciated!

A few more questions...

Are there apartment and housing rental options at Kasauli?
Or is it just a tourist place, with daily rental rooms?

Any ideas on how to find apartments/houses there?
Or should I just land there and hunt around?

Am sure you will be able to find something if you land up and look around.

You could try a real estate person in Simla, but I think that is a poor second option.

Hello!

Found a lovely house at Katrain - half way between Kullu and Manali

Am so excited, and can't wait to actually live amidst all that beauty!

Thanks to you guys, and your advice to look further north than Solan!

Have a lovely day!
