lahaul spiti
Hi
I am planning a trip from manali-keylong-kaza-manali in mid july 2008. I would cover almost all the spots in the route. 1. can someone please advise what are the road conditions on this circuit, specially the kaza-manali route? I am planning to take my santro 2. Also please advise which all roads in this circuit may be closed/inaccesible during that period? 3. and do i need any special permision for visiting chandertaal? Thanks in advance! |

Hi! At that time if it does not rain no problem,if it rains the road can get blocked by landslide/mudslides at many places in Kinnaur,Malling after Nako the most likely place, and in Spiti too. The road up to Losar is OK,between Losar and Gramphoo is quite horrible in places, and your Santro will suffer quite a bit,but it's possible,I've seen Santros on that road.No special permission required for Chandratal.

Only problem with Santro would be the Ground Clearence.Sanro can do this trek easliy, provided that u take extra care that your car doesnt get smacked from beenath. I have heard people applying protective sheets in their try it out If u want

Streach From Gramphoo upto Kunzam La, is quite rough.
Then Patches near about Spillow, Karcham, & Maling Nullah would be little Tricky |

hi
we tried to reach kaza from keylong in 2006 in an alto car but the road was quite tricky. we could manage upto a few kms before batal and even our very brave driver said that he was not feeling good anymore.
yes it is the ground clearance that is vey important. that's why small cars can get heavily damaged due a protruding bolder or stone.......... |

The ideal bet would be a taxi from Manali or Shimla. Taxi such a qualis or sumo will be ideal as compared to a Innova too. !
