Kulu Manali in Mid March

We are thinking of Kulu/Manali/surroundings in mid-March. We have 4 days.

1. Given that we are not the very active/trekking types, AND my wife will be 5 months pregnant at that point, is this advisable ? We will be content visiting temples, eating, and looking at beautful sights from far.

2. Anybody have any pointers for a 4 day trip ? I am aware I have not done much homework, sof if you can provide a brief outline, I can pick it from there. I am OK for just even one of the places I keep hearing about: Kulu OR Manali OR X ?

3. I am ruling out the Jagson because of the reviews. Air Decan seems to operate flights to Kulu...or so they claim. Any advise on air travel ?

Thanks
Shiv

Just have to say that we drove to Manali from New Delhi last summer and the roads, well...they are NOT the same as one would expect in the West. So I'm trying to picture being pregnant and on winding, twisting, hairpin roads that are narrow with huge trucks passing each other...hmmm, if you've never been to India, you may want to rethink this a bit. And Indian domestic airplanes are not the same standard that one from the west either.
Gorgeous, absolutely gorgeous area...but getting there is not easy.

Stick to Manali, it is more scenic and colder than Kullu. There is enough in Manali and surrounding areas to keep you busy for four days.

After you are done sightseeing in Manali take a day tour to Nagar and/or Kullu, if your wife is not found of altitude then don't visit Rohtang since it can cause AMS, if you are going there make sure you stop at Marhi for a breather and to acclimatize.

This is absolutely correct, i too feel same..but travelling with pregnant wife ..hmmm will she be able to cope up with high altitude. and until you go to Rohtang Pass it wont be fun..

But in March chances of Rohtang Pass opening are slim, so you might not have a problem. Do visit the Solang Valley though, it is beautiful.

No chances of rohtang being open in mid march, specially after the spells of snow in Himachal.

Will rohtang be open by 1st week of May, considering the current spell of snow?

Thanks fo all the replies....We are still making up our mind..if we go it will be via th Volvo buses from Delhi.

Any suggestions for Deluxe/luxury hotels/resorts? Comfort and Scenic views is the criterion, not budget...any inputs will be appreciated ?

Thanks.

You can try log hots, banon resorts, snow crest manor, ambassandor resorts etc.Kullu is a dirty town with not much to look at,i'd suggest check with deccan people about the flight/weather conditions since it would be a better option.Right now there is enough snow everywhere so you can expect to upto kothi and solang.

The pass may or might not be open for vehicular traffic depending on how much it snows in the coming months but you'd get very near atleast.
