Just for your information, in Sangla/Chitkul area, till now Airtel/BSNL works, but Vodafone/Hutch does not work, except Post paid Mumbai Vodafone! (As per our guide, postpaid connection of Mumbai vodafone works, but I have not checked. My NOIDA Vodafone connection was dead there. No idea about other networks.

Sir,
Now that you seemed to be determined to go and have taken adequate precautions, consultations and suggestions I wish you good luck and I am sure you will enjoy the trip immensely. Just to add: This is what I like to carry with me when I/we are traveling in terms of medications apart from the phone numbers of my Physician and Pediatrician: 1. For Adults: The current prescriptions (if any) Any medicine that you are taking as prescribed by your Doctor, including medicines for Sugar, BP, Thyroid, Arthritis, Antibiotics etc. Do take ample supply as you may not find the same brands everywhere, and may get confused. 2. For the kids: (a) Enterogemina: These are single use vials which are a must when traveling with kids (of any age). First sign of a lose stool or stomach upset, break open one and make the kid have it. Nine of ten times, it works, and works very fast. It is also very safe and has practically no side effects. (b) Zenflox-OZ Suspension (30 ml): In that 1 out of 10 cases where (a) doesn’t work even after 1-1.5 hours of administration, I have to resort to (b). It is a combination of a broad spectrum anti-biotic and an anti-protozoal agent (Ofloxacin and Ornidazole). It is on a bitter side but has a practically 100 % success rate. But you have to complete a 3 day course once you start, even if the stools stop with the first dose only. The dose would be 2.5 to 5 ml twice a day for 3 days, depending on the body weight of the child. Other common brands are ‘Zenotin’, ‘Geryl-O’, ‘O & O’. (c) Domstal Drops (or Syrup, depending on the child’s age): The best and relatively safer anti-emetic. It stops vomiting, and can also be used safely to prevent vomiting in kids when on a hilly terrain. But don’t make it into a habit. (d) Calpol/ Crocin suspension: The brands of your choice for mild pain and mild fever. Can be given even before calling your Doctor. Crocin actually has 2 variants with 2 colours and flavours for different age groups with doses written over it. (e) Nise/ Nimulid/ Nobel Suspension: High fever (fever in the range of 102 to 104) can be dangerous for kids as they can have fits and can even slip into coma. If the fever does not come down by (d) and by cold sponging – then this is your weapon of last choice. This can also be given at night if you suspect the fever to rise in sleep and go unnoticed. (f) Cough (and Cold) Syrup: Whichever brand your kid’s Doctor usually prescribes. Otherwise, some good brands are: Piriton-CS, Cozimin, Noblok etc. (g) Colimex drops/ Meftal Spas drops: for stomach pain of any kind. (h) Augmentin Duo Suspension: Broad spectrum antibiotic. Notes: • (b), (e), (f) and (h) should not be given to the child without an expert advice. • But you should still carry them because when you are on a train, plane, resort, hill or middle of nowhere, you may be able to talk to your Doctor on the phone, but you may not find a good and reliable chemist shop nearby. • Some common things are absent above since they will be in the adults kit (as below) and are common to both. Also to prevent the above scenario and administering first aid the following IMO is a must Basically (a) keep your tummy light and (b)avoid potential sources of infection For (a): 1. Avoid oily greasy fried and spicy stuff 2.Avoid anything that has caused stomach upsets or indigestion to you in the past 3. Since tea/ coffee has to be minimized, plan for things to keep you warm like soups (they are made by boiling, so are generally safe, but carry plenty of thermoform glasses with you and avoid utensils at dhaabaas) and boiled eggs and anything else that you can think of. Carry some Cup noodles with you. For (b): 1. Avoid water from eateries and also from not so popular bottled brands 2. Avoid glasses and spoons at eateries, use bottles for drinking directly, or carry some disposable and some tupperware tumblers and plastic spoons/forks with you 3.Keep your hands clean. Since soap and water (and then a napkin) become too much of a hassle, carry a small dispenser of hand sanitizer (most popular and easily available is Himalaya, pick 2 small ones, in stead of 1 big one), you wont need water, napkin or soap. 4. Avoid fresh fruit juice: there is no way in this world to make hygienic fresh fruit juice. 5. Avoid anything with cabbage, minced meat, pork, beef and pre-cut fruits, vegetables and salad. 6. Carry a couple of bottles of 'not so expensive' cologne (like Premium or Park Avenue). You can use a couple of teaspoons in a glass/bowl of water to sponge your self clean, since there may be days when you would not like/ wont get a chance to take a bath. 7. Take a good supply of undergarments and keep changing them regularly even if you avoid a shower. |

Headaches are one of the symptoms of AMS, others are nausea, swelling of hands, feet.
Try any actazolamide medicine, the most common is DIAMOX. Take 150gms twice, 1-2 days before major ascend and double the doze if AMS persists on reaching higher altitudes. If AMS still persists please come down to lower altitudes, and rest for 24hrs and climb up again IMPORTANT: MAKE SURE YOU NOT ALLERGIC TO SULFA DRUGS B4 YOU START TAKING DIAMOX, infact take hep of a doctor and do it now, even b4 you leave for Kinnaur |

I guess you are planning with your own vehicle? And a GPS too? Seemed so from your Excel data. I am sure you will add data to this worksheet while you prepare further. Once you complete the trip, please post it to IM in this thread, it will be an asset methinks!! Thanks once again!

rkbharat I have returned yesterday from the exact same route that you are going to follow. I posted some road and weather updates while on the road (thanks to my iPhone).
They can be seen here Delhi ~ Kaza ~ Delhi ~ Manali In case you need any other info please feel free to ask. I am planning to put photos and a detail travelogue later.
