kinnaur to Spiti to Ladakh on foot
Hello
I'm going in mid jun-July period. I need advice from someone whos been there already
I intend to trek solo until last village before any mountain pass. I'm carrying tent, food, stove (primus type) etc... I have rough trekking maps (not topographic but better than most common maps of the region I've seen.. ) and description of each days trekking effort from local whos been there. But some crucial information is absent with regards solo effort.
Q: Ropa (kinnaur)to Spiti over Manerang pass - is it possible without guide until last village ? What about the actual pass. Is the path well beaten? or is a local guide absolutely essential?
Q: I beleive it is restricted area even for Indians. Can I get permit same day from SDM office?
Q: Kibber village to Ladakh over Parang-La pass - Will a single guide ( 2 man team) suffice? Or will we need mules and a few porters? How late can I acquire a guide?
Whats the min night-time temperature likely at 4000-5000m during Jun-July here? I don't intend to camp at the pass of-course, but in the event of a situation... I have a 3 season tent with rain-fly.. worked well at 14000ft earlier during summer
Q: Also Anyone whos done Namgiya - Nako and Chulling-Hango-Ropa pls advice on solo effort...

Kinnaur and Spiti Trek
There is a very good book written by Deepak Sanan and Dhanu Swadi. Read the discussion here.
Manirang Pass.... you will require a guide.
Yes, it is restricted area. Indians do not require a permit now. If you are a foreigner... Rekong Peo SDM will issue the permit.
Parang La.... take guide from Kibber.
Other Q's answered in Deepak Sanan's Book This is the "Bible" on Kinnaur and Spiti... just buy it from the publisher's web site [Indus Books].
Sir; how many days have you budgeted? How many rupees approx?

The Universe is an ellipsoid?... or a Spheroid?? If the sphere smiles... it becomes an ellipse. This IS Creation.
Hi
Hi,
The manerang pass trek is a difficult trek ... The pass is unreachable these days and shall only be accessible by end July beginning august .. It is better to Hike from Mane in Spiti rather than from Ropa valley/Giabong ... Foreigners definitely need a permit ... Canbe done in one day at peo ... A guide and a porter are a must on both the treks you have mentioned ... For the parangla you could get to Kaza first and get in touch with Ramesh for guide and mules or porters ... A three season tent should suffice however depends if it can stand ferocious winds ... I have been upto Sapona Lake on the Manerang trail and can vouch for the thermals passing through there ... It was snowing in Kaza two days ago ... so i guess the min temp at kaza this Jun-Jul should hover around -5 -10 ... Carry a good feathered sleeping bag .... The namgia to Nako walk is out of bound for foreigners ... However one can walk from Nako to the Monastery halfway to Namgia .. a three housr walk one of the best in himachal under the shadow of the mighty Purgyal peaks ... The Ropa valley Hango walk is more or less on a road and can be approached both from Leo or Chango .. Or dubling on the NH 22 ... Avid is the authority and he is right ... Deepak sanans and Dhanu swadis book is a good source of information on the area ....
Cheers,
Dhananjay
