^^ interesting blog kimoni and some very nice pictures.
![]() @everyone, dhananjay Ok hi guys i need some information in regards to travelling and expenditure, im planning a >> kinnaur >> spiti >> manali travel, i will be travelling alone and i have 1 month on my timing schedule Now 1st off, if i start from shimla (I did my schooling from shimla so im aware of the place) what all different mode of transportation will i get from shimla, Bus services till rekong peo im aware of..Are their any shared cabs service that is operational in this area, the only reason im trying to avoid buses is because of missing some landspace pictures, for eg if i see a beautifull shot, i cant take it, since im in a bus and i cant ask the driver to stop the bus..that'll look stupid and inconvenient for co passengers 2nd eg buses wouldnt stop at higher point like kunzum la, im a landscape photographer and i will be terribly pissed to have missed some pictures... im sure you all smart people here understood where im coming from So information about if there are any shared cab services which ply from shimla to either rekong peo or tabo would be awesome..like they have in garhwal region !! ![]() Now im planning to do the shimla-rekong peo-nako-tabo-kaza-batal-manali.. and i will be trekking as well in the the spiti area from dhankar to kaza via, lhalung-demul-komik all the way till kaza. do i need a guide in these trails and how expensive are porters for this trek on everyday basis also accomodation in these villages and townships as well, i have stayed in 50 rs a day rooms in himachal before so im not looking for any luxury as such ? I plan to have 20k starting from shimla, do you people think it would be sufficient for this travel, expenses will be including The porter, travelling in shared cabs or buses (if cabs not available) daily needs like water (ciggarettes in my case), food, accomodation in places like recong peo and spiti region...and other expenses you guys think will happen which im not aware of. ? Including all of this, you guys think i can manage my butt in 20k? as you all see, this is a big iternary and i have 1 whole month to bask away in these regions, my target is spiti valley, and not to forget i am travelling alone, so please some inputs/suggestions will be highly appreciated and anticipated. Thank you ![]() Last edited by EL ES DEE : Apr 28th, 2008 at 13:11. Reason: speling mistake |

There are buses all the way to Kaza, and depending on the season, you can again hop a bus from Kaza to Manali. Bus service in the later stretch probably starts around late June.
While I was there last year, I did not see any shared jeep services. But even if they existed, it would carry daily commuters, so asking them to stop anywhere would be out of question. Here is my suggestion: When you leave a place, find out the timings of all the buses that take off in a day in your direction. Take the first bus in the morning. Where-ever you feel like taking pix, just get down and let go of the bus(which should not be a problem). Finish your job and hop into the next bus. You will also get to walk a few hours and take more images while waiting for next bus to arrive. Repeat this till the it is time for the last bus and head to your destination. Added suggestion: Spend maximum time in Batal, which is where I have seen the most scenic mountain views in the entire journey. Costs: It keeps descending as you move further from Shimla. Approx costs: Rekong Peo/Kalpa - Rs.250 to 500 Nako: 150 to 250 Kaza: 200 to 400 Batal: 50 to 100 I find 20k sufficient, though I don't have an idea of porterage and such expenses. |

Thanks a lot, hmm thats a very good idea of hopping from buses but the point im wondering is, even if i take an early morning bus to recong peo/tabo whats the frequency of buses which ply on recong peo tabo route ? and i guess i can manage the accomodation aspect in a more budget manner i have a full month to be in these places hence lots of time, I have been to batal and kunzum la, the mountians sure are impressive around these places... although im surprised to see kaza approx rates... any accomadation found in losar ? and someone who has done trekking from dhankar to kaza.. please enlighten me with the guide and porter expenses.. i wish to travel in june. ![]() Cheers |

Hi! There are 2 private guest houses in Losar, basically of the same kind and not so good value at 150-200 Rs per day for a squalid and cold double. From Peo to Kaza there is 1 bus a day. Every bus to/from Manali stops for around 10 minutes on Kunzum La. Batal has scenic views but food and accomodation are of very poor quality(as I said many times the locals avoid eating there if they can).In Kaza you can get a simple double with attached bath for 100 Rs a day, even less with common bath, for a little more in some places you get a bath with a geyser. Basically you don't need guide and porters for that easy trek, the way is straightforward and in every village you can go for homestaying, that will cost you 3-400 a day.

Hi! They will ask you even 500 and I know people who happily paid that, you can always try for less but be prepared to hear many no.In Lalung go to Kabrik guest house ,extremely friendly people and much cheaper.in Kaza competition does the trick, even if the guest house owners tried to make a cartel.

I was in shimla this week met dhananjay also(the guy who started spiti thread), found out about a Cab that leaves for Kalpa at 5.30 am in the morning from shimla (The news paper vendors) Im planning to tag along with them as i will save time, im also heading to sangla valley, what all places/temples are worth checking out in kinnaur, sangla area except for chitkul, kalpa ??
Oh one more thing, TRekking in Spiti valley planning for>> Dhanakar to kibber do we need any guides, im planning to do a SOLO trek... is it advisable ? what all do you think i would need along with solo treks besides the quite understood basic needs, anything extra .. ?? and how about accomodation in tashigong...possible.. i wont have tents on me so i would be needing a proper shelter. Thanks |

Hi! As I already said that is the easiest of treks and you can do homestaying in every village. But when you reach Langzą to go to Tashigang ,and then Gete and Kibber, you have to go back to the main road, because the gorge that you will find in front of you is basically impassable, surely if you are alone. I know experienced people who forced their way through it with all the equipment required in these cases, and they said that they will never do it again, much too risky.
