Kinnaur, Spiti and Kunzum La in October
Kinnaur, Spiti and Kunzum La in October
Hi
I've seen there are already lots of threads on Kinnaur and Spiti but I still have a few questions...
Will it be possible to travel from Rekong Peo to Kaza by bus in the last week of October? Ideally, I want to go from there to Losar and up to Keylong after that, and then down to Manali. I was told that the Kunzum pass closes in the middle of October though. Is it at all possible to make this journey? (I will have two or three weeks starting from October 20th)
I really, really, REALLY want to do it!!! So I'd be grateful for some advice
Thank you

Teadaze, you'd be able to do Recong Peo to Kaza. Both are 'headquarters' of respective districts, viz. Kinnaur and Spiti. The roads are kept cleared as far as is practicable.
Losar would be possible too.
The problem can come for the Keylong bit. Buses/taxis will ply only if the Kunzum is open, obviously. It's difficult to say what things will be like end-October. The weather patterns are showing a marked change; the Kunzum is closed at the moment, for example!
Unseasonal/early snowfall! Of course it will open again before the season ends, but I wouldn't want to guess how long it will stay open.
Keylong to Manali has a similar 'hurdle' in the Rohtang Pass. That section of your travel will have to be played by ear! The Rohtang is likely to be snowed out whenever the Kunzum is, if not more frequently!

Most probably both the passes will be closed in November.
You could do a Shimla - Kinnaur - Spiti - Shimla trip.
