The road is quite ok from Bhuntar to Kasol. Will not be a problem.
Deep Forest is a decent hotel to stay in, if you are looking for budget - mid accommodation i.e. (<800) The only problem being, it will involve climbing a few stairs since it is perched a few meters up (just a little though!)

Kasol - the right environment?
Just wanted to find out from folks who have been to Kasol over the past few years on the general environment of the place. All that i have read on the net on various blogs and bulletin boards is that Kasol is actually Tel Aviv (full of Israelis). Not that i have anything against them but the whole drug scene and the all night rave parties are making me rethink. I was planning to be there mid next week...
The road from Bhuntar to Kasol is absolutely fine.
You are going there with your Family so I think "Hot and Cold River Guest House"(which is just along the river)would be the right place to stay.It is run by a Guy from Mumbai....It has two/three nice rooms with attached bathroom....You can even have your meals here. The place is pretty decent.
Kasol is a nice place to relax and unwind. And yes....The place is known for it's rave parties and drug scenes but believe me....I couldn't sense all of this even once.My trip was superb....I want to go there again.

Hi..do you have details about this hotel : Deep Forest...Actually we friends(3 couples) are leaving for Kasol tonight without any prior reservation..I have heard that there aren't many hotels at kasol...So would we be able to find a decent place to stay or will have to stay at Manali?
I just came back from Kasol 4 days back and had no issues finding a place to stay. Decent number of hotels with decent accommodation are available at this time. Contrary to my expectations, even the guesthouses at Challal which is 25 mins walk from Kasol wore a deserted look.
Not in weekends though. All guest houses up their rates by minimum double and some more on weekends for the increased demand for rooms whenever party happens in Kasol/Challal. The only way to beat this is to occupy the rooms by Thursday or latest by Friday.

Yup...this should explain the sudden influx of tourists on the weekend. Also, many tourists who primarily are travelling on this route for Manikaran, chose to stay in Kasol.
