Kalka, Ambala or Chandigarh halt? - Manali to Delhi

Hi All,
I am from Bangalore and I am planning for a trip to Manali in July. Still planning out the itenary.While returning I want to start from Manali early in the morning and halt overnite in either Kalka, Chandigarh or Ambala. And from there I want to catch the Early morning Shatabdi to delhi.

Now I am not sure which of the 3 places to halt. What is most important is that I should get a budget accomodation(under 1000 rs a night) near the railway station so that We can catch the early morning train to Delhi, ideally walking distance or a couple of kms from railway station.

Also I would like to travel by luxury bus in the morning from Manali to Kalka/Chandigarh/Ambala..

Please suggest which of the 3 places I should choose.

Hi nitin,
If you already have a thread going for a particular trip, it's no problem at all to ask a related Q in the same thread, even if it doesn't match the title. Just thought I'd mention it.

Chandigarh is the conventional rail-head for Manali, being on the direct route (also for the buses). Kalka wud be ok becos of the HPTDC hotel at Parwanu 3 km away, but there's no direct bus going that way. Simplest for you will be Chandigarh.
You shud be able to get decent accom, just look around in the Hotels forum and the Punjab/Haryana forum.

BTW, I'm guessing you don't want to travel at night, becos otherwise the overnight luxury bus goes thru to Delhi.

Chandigarh would be the most logical , theres no point going as far as Ambala and Kalka is not the best of places to stay at.

Accommodation at those price points will not be an issue. You can browse the hotel section of the site and see what you find or simply just Google around a bit.
