Kailash Kinnaur circuit trek

Anyone know any information about the Kailash Kinnaur circuit trek? Is it neccessary to go through an agency or is it possible to arrange on your own? What is necessary gear? Are decent maps available in the area or is a guide necessary? Is there any bureaucratic stuff for foreigners? ie permits? How is late June, weather wise, for doing this trek?

thanks

Search the Trekking Forum. Pijush Kanti Mondal has written a report on this trek.

1. Possible to arrange on your own. Will take two days to arrange guide / porter or whatever

2. End June you will be climbing thru deep snow and patches of hard ice. All ice climbing equipment required. Plus tents for you and porters plus rations plus kerosene.

3. Maps of very poor quality

4. Inner Line Permit required for foreigners. At SDM's office Rekong Peo.

5. Late June not good. Too much snow and ice. Normal approx. opening date is 15th July, but this year consider it 30th July because its still snowing heavily.

Thanks for the reply I saw the post mentioned after I posted this. It sounds like I'll maybe wait and try it in the early fall when I get back from Ladakh.
