Jammu-Srinagar-Leh-Kaza-Tabo-Sangla-Shimla

I plan to undertake this tour, driving myself in a Tavera from the 23rd of May till the 7th of June.

I just saw some posts on this forum that I should not attempt to cross the Zozila Pass before the 3rd week of June, and that the route from Tabo to Sangla is in very bad shape.

I am adventurous, but not overly so. And I have really young children with me. So is it silly to attempt this trip in the date window I have indicated? Or is it ok to go ahead?

Regards
Samir

Hi Samir,
You are a little early for the trip.
I think you should plan your dates so as to leave Kashmir for Leh in the Middle of June.
Most Probabbaly that would also be the earliest time these roads would open.

Samir not only it would be too early, you are so looking at too less days to do the whole trip! i mean this amount of time is fine for Ladakh circuit, but not for ladakh + tabo + sangla! You will be rushing things along and that too in the starting days when there is a huge chance of passes closing again.

Hi samir,
THis seems bit too risky considering you mentioned you have small kids with you so it doesnt really sounds a good date considering the fact you have to cross high passes at this time when it is not open completely. Even if it is open u are at a risk of unseen weather changes ...

Take time and dont jump into these pre planned dates... Take it easy.. as far as it goes for whole route - Leh - Kaza- sangla - shimla - You are going to feel angry doing it too soon as this route is something you would want to enjoy ... so dont make it run of a mill.. Just keep it to Srinagar - leh - manali
that should let you give enough of thrills... Also the roads of spiti are worst then that of leh terrain !!

Rest is upto you but think again - is it touch and go or is it a journey to enjoy..

Although LOVEMAX is correct and very rightly said but samir !
road from SANGLA to TABO was fine when I drive there last November. I found road fine by himalayan road std.
If someone has gone there after that-kindly post here,so that care and planning for vehicle could be done !
