Is the road open between Manali to Leh around end of May?

Wanted to know if the road route is open between Manali to Leh around the 28th of May?
If so what time would normally the bus start from Manli to Leh.

Plan your trip according to this fact...you can fly IN and travel by road OUT.

Last year the highway had opened in the theird week of May... but this year it has snowed quite bit... and May is kinda outta question i guess


I plan to head out of Manali on the 10th of June... what are the chances for that...? are there any websites / departments i copuld contact for accurate details...?

check this leh.nic.in, this will tell u if the roads are open or not. I did also write to them about the possible opening date but am still waiting for replies.

We are plannin a trip during June, Many have advised me to camp a nite on the way to leh somewhere arround Sarchu, r u plannin on somethin like that or have found an accomo?

Last time around I stayed in the tent camp at Pang.

Another option is guesthouses in Keylong , not so far after the Rothang

mid may is usual opening time , a good idea is to contact some tour operator/taxi service in Manali as to th econdition of th eroad as these guys do daily rides to Rotang , once Rotang is open pretty much all else is alos open .
Another option is contact SASE(Snow and Avalanche Study Estb.) Manali dunno contact info but these guys are from Border Roads/Army and actually involved in road clearing......luck bro

As per the Local news channel "AAJ TAK" the road from Manali to Leh via Rohtang Pass will open on 7th May this year.

BTW : the extremely early opening I was talking about earlier was last year , April 11th. Don´t count on it happening again , esp. after the heavy snows this year.

The year before that the pass opened May 17th

Manali Leh highway opening in early May?? I seriously doubt this .. with all the record snow fall we had this year..

i hope the road open s by mid june this year looking @ the snow we faced @kufri and shilmla it only seems that manali passes shall open by june ist or second week .

Road is open presently as well but guys not for commuters, its for only for Army and the BRO people.
I am very much sure about roads not opening up till June First week, this year was one hell of a snow session.
