Internet Access Speeds in Himachal.

Hi all.
Can people tell me about their experiences with Internet Speeds in various places in Himachal.
I am asking this because i have recently set up 2 cybercafes in Old Manali and Vashist for a friend from Manali. Dial up to the Kullu Node on 172233 used to work slow but was workable till a few weeks back. Recently iin the last couple of weeks the speeds have gone bad. It is pathetically slow.

I saw an Israeli guy sit on a comp, open the hotmail home page, play 3 games of solitare till the page would open. Put in his login details and again play 2 games of Solitare till the next page would open.

What are other options to get faster Internet access ?
We are contemplating getting together 4-5 Cybercafes and setting up a V-Sat for them. Is this the best and only option.
Anybody got any idea if BSNL DSL Broadband will be started for places like Manali soon...

Any info on this will be really appreciated.

Amit

Hi Styler
You need to setup your cyber cafe using ISDN connection from BSNL. You can achieve speed ranging from 64kbps to 128kbps. ISDN connection can handle 7 to 10 pcs with ease. Also you should go for switches and not for hub while networking your pcs. The Internet charges for ISDN connection are same as ordinary connection.
The V-SAT system you are talking about is not so affordable and one also have to pay high amount for bandwidth alone. So better rely on the trusted ISDN connection. You will need a special Modem and NT device too. The security deposite for getting ISDN connection is Rs.5000/- and you also know about the "quick" response from BSNL.

Thanks for the info.
We have put up a proper Server and networked properly with a 100 MBPS Switch. Just that the Dial Up Connection was pathetically slow.
ISDN was always an option , but i was told by the locals there that it is very expensive. Now that you've told me that the Internet Charges on ISDN are same as normal Dial Up, i will find out more.
Thanks
Amit

I found that, for some reason, hotmail is really slow in india. yahoo is much faster. my sister could never get her hotmail account to open up even in Bangalore.

hotmail has always had its troubles - everywhere. goes down often. lots of spam.

i think yahoo is better than hotmail and gmail (which i have and like). is the entire interface is loaded -not just simple html. yahoo you can also set to simple html. you can only switch in gmail once in.

Anyone know what the Internet connection is like in Manali these days? Does it go down often? Is it quick?

Hi,
Internet is great in Manali these days.
BSNL provides broadband connections through ADSL Technology.
It is fast and stable now.
Broadband started in Manali only this year.
