Ha ha ha. Liked your tale about a big group demanding to see a Buddha statue when it was not there. And you telling them that they had to go to Langza.

Big tourist groups are scary. I always leave when I encounter one.

We met the same group in Manali 3 days later while returning...they admitted that they had confused Langza with Dhankar...

Day 6:Kibber - Komic - Langza

I woke up early in the morning, took my camera and went for a walk in the village.
It was extremely cold as the sun was not out completely.

I went up for a short trek,a very small hill around the village which gives some great views of the entire village.

So I took out my camera to click some pictures and then I realized I forgot to carry the batteries in hurry.

I generally remove the batteries from the camera when not clicking any images and try to keep it in some warm place(maybe below the pillow) during the night. This helps in retaining the charge which otherwise drains out very fast in such cold conditions.

While returning I saw the bus to Kaza which I planned to board the earlier day.Anyway that was not required.

By 8.30 our breakfast was ready and we were asked to sit in the dining hall.

After completing the breakfast we started.
As planned on the earlier day,we took a short 20 mins break at Kye Monastery for taking some pictures.

The sumo was having some issues with the silencer pipe again,so our driver took it to a garage in Kaza for a check up.
It took some 25 mins to get that fixed and we started again towards Langza.

We had plans for visiting Hikkim, which have the highest post office but had to drop the plan since the motorable road to Hikkim was under maintainance.

Reached Langza around 12.30 p.m.
We reached much ahead of what we have estimated,so deceided to visit Komic village.

Komic is around 7-8 k.m from Langza. It is sparsely populated village, smaller than one can imagine.
I counted the number of houses in the village was 21.It has a registered population of 140 but almost half of the people lives in Kaza.
Komic is more than 15000 ft,even if you take a few quick steps, you will feel breathlessness.

Our driver requested a Lama in the Monastery if he can provide us lunch and he was very happy to help us with the lunch.

Actually he had prepared the Lunch(Rajma Chawal) for other Lamas who were supposed to return from Kaza that day,but didn't.
So he gave the excess lunch to us.

We started for Langza at around 2.30 p.m and reached within 30 mins.
Langza is also a small village but larger than Komic,it has around 35 houses.

Langza has no hotels, only few homestays, which are very confortable and friendly. We stayed in Tenzin homestay.

We spent the evening chatting with the owner and his family in the kitchen.

We were warned about the extreme cold temperature in Langza and if possible avoid spending the night there but Langza was much warmer than what we thought and my suggestion to whoever reading this report and planning for Spiti trip is to spend atleast a night in Langza for expiriencing some real flavours of the Spitian culture.

Yes I have read your blog..and your experience with Tenzin Chauppel..

Even I had called him once for our trip and I almost finalized with him..but luckily for me he was not responding to my calls after some initial discussions..so I had to book another car..
