I want Play with Snow..

Hi All..
I will be visiting HP from this 13th to 18th.. I am desperately want to see, feel, and play with snow. Can any of you suggest a good place to see, and play with snow in HP? Its better if it is possible in one day from Shimla or Manali.

Other thing is it possible to see an apple orchard from there? Is this the apple season?

Thanks..

Not sure about Shimla but Manali is higher & should have snow for you to play with.

As for apple orchards, believe me, there's nothing spectacular about orchards - I went on a guided tour through Shimla and the bus stopped outside an orchard (behind a wire fence.

We got to see many trees without leaves or fruit - it wasn't the right time of year. This was in November (?).

Cheers

Yes, you can see apple orchards around Simla, but the apples are not ripe yet! But, you may love the taste of sour apples, I definetly loved these.
Regarding Snow, you can get to see it at Rohtang Pass, but you can never be sure at this time of year.

@zoltan
I dont think, even at Manali, we could able to find Snow at this time of the year. But what I want to know is, is there any possibility to us to go to where Snow is, within a Day and come back or two days.

@The_Wanderer
Thank you for the good news . I hope apples will be good when we leave there. So is this the season or, some random off season crop you are mentioning.

And anybody know a good Drive whom we can contact from Shimla, during our stay there?

Thanks guys. you people rocks!

Talking Rohtang Pass

From Manali, drive up to Rohtang Pass (jeeps available)

People go here just to play with snow (don't eat too much of it) and you will find snow in patches even in September.

On 13 to 16 July, you will definitely see snow.

And Apple season has started.

HAPPY APPLE EATING

He he.. Feel like already gone there
Thank you for good words. Do you have any Idea, how much it will cost for a good 4W to go to Rohtang Pass?

Many jeeps go there from 7 am to 12 noon regularly on a "per seat" sharing basis. People en-route also hire out snow coats and rubber gum boots for walking in snow. Its all very well organized. Lotsa choice. Enquire the rates beforehand in the market. Not a problem here...

You will not need any warm clothes. Dont burden your luggage with more than a jacket or windsheeter. Snow is out of the question around Shimla. And if you do decide to go to Manali & on to Rohtang, no need to hire out snow boots or snow suits. Continue wearing your regular Reeboks.

There are NO 4x4's for hire IN INDIA. If you do find one, please inform me. All the 4X4's are personally owned ones. They don't hire out.

The regular Bolero, Scorpio, Tavera, etc. are quoted at Rs 3000 per day in season. I guesstimate that Rohtang and back [half day] should be anything between 1500 to 1800.

4X4 (Ford Endeavour) is only available at one place in that area (In Chandigarh) @ 7500/- per day. Others are generally available everywhere @ 3000/- during season. Low season, rates are bargainable.

More Questions on Shimla and Manali

Thank you for the great responses so far..

Few more Questions..(I hope tht will not lead to another questions )

1. I have already booked, Kalka- Shimla Train. It is scheduled to reach Shimla around 17.00 hours. Does this train usually get late? what will be the average?

2. I will have to Lodge at Shimla for the night, but not yet decided a place. Any good place to recommend? (Budget 1000/night will be okay)

3. We are expecting to leave Shimla next day. Travel mode un-decided yet. How much it will cost to travel from Shimla to Manali (rough figure will suffice). What are the places of interest on the way?

Thanks again

Small world, i did not realize you were on the site!!

The toy train usually does not get late barring any mechanical problems or landslides which are rare as well.

At 1000 a night you could consider Holiday Home, their basic room is 800 or so a night and then next level at 1200. You can book through the HP tourism site or just google.

btw i had replied via email to your comment on the blog.
