hptdc office
Hi
I visited the Hptdc office in Delhi today for Hotel room reservations in Shimla. The staff were a bunch of nice people but were not of much help when it comes to helping you with the iterinary. They did not have much to show when it came to pictures/info of the places in Himachal. Their only source was Hptdc.gov.in. That was disappointing. They did give info on the hotels though which was not available on the website. The Rs 1700 room in Hotel Holiday home, Shimla is hotel facing (concrete to look at) while the Rs 2000 room is Mall road facing. Came to know that most of the hotels under Hptdc would be giving discounts upto 30% from 7th July to mid September. The staff does not bug you,is sweet, but is a bit too unperturbed. |

This is, unfortunately, the case with many government tourist setups across the country.
Pity. If these guys got their act together, they would, because of their locational and value for money advantage, give the private guys a real run for their money.

I went through the same thing last month. I wanted to book rooms in few hotels and their website does not accept US credit cards. I sent my friend from Ahmedabad to HPTD's local office and he asked for hotel details/room pictures/location info. etc so he can decide on my behalf and book rooms but none of the above info. was given to him. I just got tired and asked my friend to book the best rooms at each hotel in Swarghat/Nagar/Manali. I wish their local office had atleast basic hotel info. required for one to help decide.

It is too bad
that they couldn't help you in charting out any itinerary for the trip. But you don't have to go to HPTDC office for it. Just log onto the net sitting in the comfort of your room and avoid any inconvenience of going to offices (HPTDC or any other travel agent) as you can get all the required information here (and now you know the site to get the best information). All the HPTDC hotels can be booked over net also.Himachal is a little paradise on earth and I wish you all the best for your trip go n enjoy. Stop complaining Yes, when you come back do share your experience on the forum. ![]() |
