HP & Ladakh
HP & Ladakh
Hi,
I plan to travel in HP and Ladakh next year.
Travel route: LEH - KEYONG - KAZA - TABO - REKONG PEO
Travel permit is needed from Tabo to Rekong Peo.
- Does anyone know if it's possible ot get it in Keylong, or would I have to go to Manali?
- Does it really matter if I travel from N to S (Keylong - Rekong), or is it much easier to go from S to N (Rekong - Keylong)?
- Would it be possible to travel by bus from Kaza to Keylong end of May/start of June?
What is the earliest possible time to travel by bus from Manali to Leh? Beginning of June?
All replies are much appreciated.
Happy travels.

You can get permission in Keylong (this was true in October , anyway ). Don`t count on being able to go by bus to Leh until late June.
A couple of days (at least) at around 2000 meters before (Vashisht above Manali, Dharamsala or Darjeeling ) makes the trip a lot more enjoyable (it`s more fun fully conscious).
You can also check out my earlier posting on the Manali-Leh route (coming down for air) concerning the tourist buses, private buses and jeeps on this road.
It will be fun...

Vistet is right, a couple of days in Manali definately helps you acclimatise. Last year I got a shared jeep from Manali to Leh in the 3rd week of May, but the timings of the road opening (and closing) differ slightly from year to year.
