ummm well.. i was a little doubtful about the traffic scene during this period so my planned last week of june is close to ur recommended july first week
so shud be ok i feel... but when i land there all depends on when i get the rail tickets to Delhi from here..that IRCTC site is down. damn!! cannot check it now....and about the road.. last year when in a truck sitting in the front sit beside the cleaner from koksar to manali i did have a look at the trecherous parts of the road...a couple of KMs down from the pass is certainly not skatable so will just take a shortcut down and then put on my blades.... well thats what i feel sitting here in mumbai..the scene might just be different when i am actually there..can't say. ![]() btw thanks for the update...

Chamba -kilar highway is under construction ,WIP stage The Chamba-Killar highway is situated at an altitude of 4,390 metres. The construction work near the Saach Pass is going on a war footing. The Saach is one of the few high altitude passes in Himachal Pradesh. The opening of the Chamba-Killar highway for plying of vehicular traffic will create a new chapter of history in the district. It will be a lifeline for the people of Pangi. According to Mr Thakur Singh Bharmouri, Chief Parliamentary Secretary (Higher Education), who represents this area in the state Assembly, the state government had plan to dedicate the highway to the people this year. With the commissioning of the highway the Pangi tribal valley would be connected with the district headquarters town of Chamba. Thus, it will be the shortest route not only to the residents of Pangi but also to the tourists and trekkers who had been aspiring to visit the Pangi valley. Earlier, the people of the valley had to take a route of about 700 km via Pathankot, Kangra, Mandi, Kullu, Manali, Rohtang Pass, Keylong and Udaipur to reach Killar. The opening of the Chamba-Killar highway will be a boon to the people of this tough and mountainous terrain. The highway will pave the way for the promotion of tourism industry. From:- http://www.tribuneindia.com/2005/200...himachal.htm#3 The proposed commissioning of the 172 km long Chamba-Killar highway through a shortcut route via Saach Pass at an altitude of 4,390 metres which is nearing completion, would be a boon for people of the tribal region of Himachal Pradesh. The construction work on a small patch of a few metres of this highway is going on a war footing. The Saach is one of the few high altitude passes in Himachal Pradesh. Frrom:- http://www.tribuneindia.com/2005/200...himachal.htm#7 Any info about this road . I got the info from net as well as from other forum that already some people had done this route in their two wheeler . http://www.pbase.com/cassgilbert/sac...northern_india |

Hi Naushad and all IMers,
So the vehicles are plying between Manali - Leh, Naushad pls tell us about road conditions and bridges, especially the bridge at Khoksar, last year it was broken and our couple of members were stuck there for some time. Is Baralacha La open and how much snow is there on tops. And what's latest weather up there at High Passes, because temp. has dropped abt 5 to 8 degrees celcius here in Delhi, it must be more snow on passes. Thanks ![]() Mk |
