Is it due to work on Rohtang Tunnel ? Do they have to resume the tunnel work. Just guessing.

That wud be a good guess, my info last October was that all the paperwork and prelim preparation is complete, and next is to start the real digging.
Or they have news that the Chinese are going to attack as a diversionary measure, to take the attention off the torch controversy, and the Indian Army wants to get supplies in quickly!

Not the entry point, but to get to the exit point at present, the only way is over the pass. Work will be done at both ends.

As far as my Knowledge goes goes Rothang Tunnel's enrty Point is near the place where we take a diversion for Solang Valley(Kothi Maybe) & the exit Point is somewhere near Sisu Fall. Correct me if i am wrong

Less snow this year on tops ?

As far as i've heard (not confirmed though) snow is about 30 feet (refer to post #142).

Close - entry point is at the end of the road that continues past the Solang field. Exit is near Teling, which itself is 6 km before Sisu.

Hello every body, with the kind of weather we are experiencing at Manali, the 3978 meters high Rohtang Pass would hopefully be open by April 25, 2008 and by the way this would mean the open road upto to Jispa and Dharcha about 35 Kilometers beyond Keylong towards Leh. The road to Leh for small vehicles (jeeps) would be open by May 15, 2008.

Snow tends to spread itself around, so I wudn't know what a snow "point" is. Rohtang is 3980 m and in summer the pass/road and nearby meadows are generally snow-free. But the peaks and a few slopes close by will still have snow, yes.
