Hotel Peach Blossom, Fagu or Chail Palace? Hi, I have one day to stay near Simla. I am considering either chail palace or Hotel Peach Blossom. My preference is good valley views and calm atmosphere. Can you please suggest which one is better? Regards, Ravi

Chail Palace has a great location but to be honest with you the place is overpriced. Himachal Tourism have really let the place go. In the Maharaja Suite they fitted the most horrible avacado bathroom suite. It looked like a servants suite rather than the Mahrajas suite. The toilets downstairs absolutely stink of urine. To top things off they had a metal lean to extension to the Palace which makes you think it is a jhuggi in delhi rather than a former palace. This palace has been totally destroyed over the years and is a good example of how state owned heritage properties rarely work.

You are looking at 2 ends of a spectrum really...but if its calm atmosphere u want then i would suggest chail....Narkanda is , well, disorgainzed and more 'active' than chail...

Agree with both shere (Chail overpriced) and rishabh (views) - it'll be Fagu (not Narkanda, puchoo) for me anyday. More here: Peach Blossom, Fagu or Hotel Pacific, Kufri?

Thanks for the suggestions. I booked Peach Blossom online for a day. How much time it will take from Simla to Fagu? I want to take the public transport. Thanks, Ravi

It's 22 km from Shimla to Fagu. The buses leave from the up-country depot at Lakkar Bazar. Depending on where you are staying, you cud also catch the bus at Sanjauli. Fare is Rs. 16-17, time 35-40 mins. http://himachal.nic.in/hrtc/route.asp

Thru the Victory Tunnel and round the back, won't it be more, puchoo? Somehow my impression was it's around 2 km? Ravi, walking with luggage will be inconvenient, altho I confess I have no idea how to get around locally.

why would one go through the victory tunnel? The station is located on the main road leading up to the victory tunnel chowk....from there one does not take a left (i.e through the tunnl) but keep going straight to ISBT...
