Okay preethi
here is the low down on out trip in 2006- end may.

Mumbai - Delhi - Rajdhani - great way to travel if you are going from mumbai - delhi . for chennai flight would be good.
We stayed in delhi for a night since I had to work & my son & husband loved the metro & red Fort. you can decide on that depending on your time constrains

Delhi - Manali - HPTDC - volvo bus , 6 PM from Connought place, New Delhi, arrival manali - 9:30 am.
Since we were travelling during peak season - we booked the HPTDC hotel Beas. this is a great location for us since we wanted to be near the market & still be a little away. It is a budget hotel we paid 750 per day inclusive of breakfast (tea + butter toast) & diner 3 course okay kind. the only drawback was that it is located near the only bridge in Manali for crossing river beas & this means noise though out the night. Would recommend the hidimba cottages, atleast one other couple on the bus with us was staying there and they were from bangalore also honeymooners & they liked the location.

day one was spent sleeping & relaxing around manali &
Located a local travel agency for our rohtang out of manali excursion. paid 750 for the front seat for 3 of us. better than any other location in the shared sumo. its a great way to travel meeting up with other honeymooners

day 2 at rohtang etc did the hot air balloon at nehru kund great experiance for the little guy. window shopping in the evening

day 3 walked to hidimba and manu mandir generally relaxed.
day 4 left for shimla by the HPTDC bus - its a day long trip and the so called deluxe bus is anything but that. but hey we enjoyed the trip in the company of 20 odd people some from bengal, and even from south of chennai. We stayed in the budget annexe rooms of Dalziel hotel. Execellent location on 5 minutes from the mall and yet away from it.

day 5 walked around shimla saw the viceroys house now apart of it is a muesuem great way to spend the day. but we made a mistake of not drinking enough water and that evening my son fell ill. spent the next day in the room playing cards & generally recuping also there was a bandh declared that day because of some agitation . we had plans to visit chail that day.

day 6 we were to leave that afternoon by the toy train so we left early that morning packed our luggauge in the travel companies maruti & took a shortened version of our excursion including the zoo at kufri - i think. we dint go to the snow point. Our son was more interested in the zoo. we were dropped to the station well in time. We had a lovely lunch thali, at the dining hall in the railway station and by the time we finished our toy train was ready for us at the platform.

Its a long tedious journey down hill although the high point for my son was the 109 tunnels he counted each one of them.

We stayed the night a kalka & then took the Paschim express to mumbai.

My recommendation would be that you use the HPTDC website & book your Volvo online or atleast with their local office in Chennai.
I personally like the location & prices & chances of hanky panky are next to nothing as these are used by familes & schools too.

get to maanli & then shop around for a local tour operator team up with other honeymooners or enjoy each others comapny by going for long walks, do attemt the snow mobile in rohtang, hot air balloning at nehru kund ( expensive @ 1000bucks per person for 10 odd minutes), river crossing and do go to solang nalla & dress up as a himachuli & take some phots together.

& have Fun

Have you considered making discrete enquiries of his family or close friends, in case he is busy planning to surprise you by booking a honeymoon too?

Honeymoon...Check the following URL as it specializes in:

http://www.hotelhoneymooninn.net/special-packages.html

Shimala/Kufri/Manali shall be the paradise for honeymooners....August will be off season so no problem with crowds etc...and there will be some discount offered on the hotel packages. If you've time....Kalka-Shimala Toy Train ride is one of the most scenic trains I've been on.

Thanks Haylo... He is not going to plan anything i am sure about it... Initially he asked me about the Honeymoon trip, I said not to go now... So i am sure he is not planning this surprise for me.. I asked his mother too...

Thanks sb_amd_us... thanks for the link... I visited the link...

My question is: Hotels are also providing packages for site visiting. Is that good or hiring an own cab is good... Because I am planning to hire a cab which will be with us for entire 7 or 9 days... Cab driver said it will cost 12000/- for that...

Most couple of their honeymoon tend to touch base with Kufri . Some sigght seeing, maybe a ride of the horse , walking etc.

I personally dont like the place in the sense that its too crowded and theres too much "kuchikooing" for me to digest..!

Preethi i guess they dont have office in Chennai,so you can talk with them on the numbers provided on website and go ahead

Now regarding your Iternary

Day 03: Simla - Kufri
Kufri and other places(need suggestions)
Overnight at hotel.

You can go to Kufri/Mashobra Valley/Chail from Shimla, all these places are not far.

and regarding sight seeing in Manali, the hotel can also arrange sight seeing/vehicle and provide all the information,so dont worry much about that.

My only advice is not to hurry up things, relax and spend time seeing places at your own liking/pace.

hope it helps.
