Honeymoon to Manali and Amritsar in May ,Itenary help
hi
this is regarding my honeymoon trip to Manali in May I have been following very closely the various posts on the best way to travel and places to visit in Manali based on these I decided on the following. Day 1) Saturday Chennai-Delhi flight and stay at friend's place in Delhi Day 2) Sunday Shatabdi train from Delhi to Chandigarh in the morning. this reaches Chandigarh at 11:40. what are the reliable means of reaching Manali from Chandigarh. are there good HPTDC buses or is Tata Indica the only choice. if there are good HPTDC buses any idea on start timings and duration please? reach Manali by late Sunday evening. Day 3) Monday Local Manali tour short trip. I am planning to stay in Sterling Resorts and use the HPTDC buses to go to various tours on 3 other different days. Day 4) Tuesday Manali - Rohtang Pass - Manali --- 10:00 AM Day 5) Wednesday Manali - Naggar - Solang - Manali --10:00 AM Day 6) Thursday Manali - Kullu - Manikaran - Manali Day 7) Friday are there any other places worth visiting ? I keep hearing of Vasisht,Kufri etc is it possible to visit these places? now if I want to return to Amrtistar instead of Chandigarh when is a good time to start from Manali and please tell me the means. I want to visit Golden temple,Jallianwala bagh and Indo-pak border are there good safe hotels to stay in Amritsar? then I need to take the train from Amrtisar to DELHI and then Delhi-madras flight. is this realistic? will it be too tiring? I am confused in particular about the last leg of my journey i.e. Manali-Amrtisar-DELHI please provide suggestions and advice. |

I can answer one of your question. There are many buses running for Manali from Chandigarh sector 17 bus stand. Getting a bus to Manali from Chandigarh is not going to be a problem.

just wondering.......why not take an overnight Volvo right from Delhi instead of the train to Chandigarh? There are good Volvo services of HPTDC. You can get them booked at their office..
CHANDERLOK BUILDING 36, JANPATH, NEW DELHI-110001. Tel: (011) 23325320, 23324764 Fax: (011) 23731072 Source HPTDC and yes Vashist is just 'in the town'. Just pay 40 bucks to an automan from the Mall and get to Vashisit. Or you can even have a nice early morning walk up to the hot springs. Worth a visit as its quite manageable. guys will drop in to answer ur other questions. Have fun in ur trip!

hi subbu,
this will be too tired and bouring for travelling all the places.especially for you because of honey moon. my suggestion is avoid amritsar and train travelling to chandigarh. travel in train upto chandigarh and to manali is waste of time and is difficult to often changing the vehicles.avoid train travelling. i travelled manali and delhi on feb.last weak. HRTC runs daily volvo buses from delhi to manali is very nice to travelling.you will not get tired of ordinary buses doing. so trust volvo bus. it starts at 8.30 pm in delhi and reaches moring at 10-30 to 11 am. without painful travelling.you need to book advancely for volvo bus as soon as possible because you will travel in peak season. you can also easily get cab in manali from the town or at the moment you landing in manlai. they charged 500-600 per day for local visits around 50 kms.may be it will extend in may. manali to amritsar will take 1.5 days(may be). and then to delhi takes another day.it is too long also. kufri is located nearby shimla.so,dont consider kufri.it is another way from manali. my suggestion is, DAY.1: LOCAL VISIT reach manali at 11-12pm.search for hotel and lunch upto 2.pm.after that,go to 1.hadimba temple(1.5kms)walk 2.old manali(2.5kms)walk 3.vashist. DAY.2: SOLANG VALLEY.(15 kms on the way to rohtang pass) heading to solang valley by local cab.watch out and walk along the valleys and play paragliding and other sports.i dont know skiing is possible or not in solang valley. if time is having, walk upto dhundi village a vissible distance from solang valley.(if possible). DAY.3: ROHTANG PASS (50 kms) 1.kothi village for best views for riverflow.(12 kms) 2.rahalla falls(around 24 kms) 3.marhi - gulaba camp.(around 30 kms) 4.rohtang pass.(50 kms). in marhi or rohtang, you can play skiing and some snow games. DAY.4: NAGGAR AND SURROUNDINGS on the way to naggar, you can see lot of apple trees, deodhar trees, plums trees, pine trees, and yellow colourfull plant(may be kadugu plant)i forgot that plant name.(beautiful to take photos). 1.jagatshuk temple.(around 6 kms) 2.visit kullu shawl industry cum sale show room(if you want)on the way to naggar. 3.naggar castle(25kms) 4.roerich museum(26 kms) 5.patlikhul (around 5 kms from naggar),you might get some amazing trouts to eat over there.if you are veg.avoid this place. if possible, 6.suspension bridge(15 miles from naggar)pandrah meel. 7.walk around naggar interior. DAY.5. reserve for some local visits or shopping or you will easily know what will you to do after 4days experience. or go upto 15 kms from manali-kullu road for seeing some views of river view. evening at 5.30 pm volve bus leave from manali to delhi.next day morning at 8 am it reach delhi. if u need any other further information, pls call at 98656-64555. suresh babu. |

Reply :Honeymoon to Manali and Amritsar in May ,Itenary help
thanks for all the valuable suggestions
the only reason i am talking abt delhi-chandigarh train is we both are allergic to long distance bus travel. it is managable if it is 7-8 hrs but 13 -14 hrs is too much for us. but yes i will avoid amritsar. so i guess chandigarh is the only transit/midpoint. btw the places you all mentioned e.g solang and others does it make sense to go by the HPTDC buses i.e do they stop at important places to take a good view/snaps or do you suggest a indica for all days at manali? thanks subbu |

HPTDC buses stopping.....I doubt!
![]() Cab it up for a day trip to Rohatang and other palces! Getting into the shared sumo is also another option but may not be preferable to enjoy to the fullest. |

cab is best in manali.may be traffic on the road to rohtang in may.so,start earlierly to visit the places around rohtang.you can easily stop on the way to solang and rohtang.so cab is best.
even from chandigarh, you must travel atleast 225-250kms.the road from delhi to chandigarh is very nice.volvo bus is semi sleeper,so space is more than enough to seat or sleep(semi).so trust volvo. even now you feel bus is difficult, take cab from delhi to manali.avoid chandigarh train travelling. suresh babu |

now people are confusing me by asking "why dont you travel to Amritsar?".
i happened to notice that there is no train from Chandigrah to Amritsar and vicer-versa and also that Amritsar-Manali is too time consuming and tiring. does it make sense to travel to Amristsar and then to MANALI? if so which is the best means (route wise and time-wise) the only thing i am sure is that it is a 1 week trip Saturday mornng chennai-delhi next saturday evening delhi-chennai. thanks subbu |

subbu,
to my knowledge, i would suggest strictly not to combine manali and amritsar, that too if its just 1 week trip and a honeymoon trip.

please suggest good safe 3 hotels each for
1) DELHI 2) Chandigarh. i am looking at a budget of 1000 rs ( i have to stay 1 night at each place for transit). in case 1000rs is not possible for a safe good hotel 1500 seems fine for me. panickers was quoting 2100 for one night stay, thats way too much. |
