this out of context. refer to railways. I am in Manali the only developed hill station post independence without army cantt background. Kufri is also excllent choice in winter if interested in joy of snow. But Kufri is just extension of Shimla. It is shame to all goverment officials, IAS, IFS and all tourism department persons that only one hill station could come up that is Manali. All planning and talks are failure. But there is wind of change and we hope there is less intervention by government in future and free flow is advisable like IT revolution

In my opinion the Rohtang Pass trip is over-rated (I have done it in December)--the pass itself would be cold and windy.
It would be more interesting to take a trip to Manikaran.

Kalka to Sarahan is 254 km by road, around 8.5 hours.
Kalka to Shimla by train - u can get the fare from http://indianrail.gov.in
Shimla to Sarahan is 169 km, around 5 hours.

Bus fares u can get from http://himachal.nic.in/hrtc
For taxis u can work with Rs. 7-8 per km.

it is spoiling honeymoon by covering shimla manali both in one week
u can enjoy best by choosing one place
also snow in that period is most likely on way (shimla to sarahan) at narkanda 1 hr ahead of kufri. manali will have limited choice as all high altitude areas will be unreachable like rohtang and may be solang. today there is news of snowfall in manali but not clear about exact location in manali. for honeymoon in this period, think about shimla as u have high probability of all fun (minus river/stream). enjoy manali in full in some later trip. possible choice to cover shimla excursions are
shimla, chail, kufri (3 places have round trip but subject to snow conditions) and may be ahead of shimla like kufri, fagu, narkanda (here u enjoy hatu peak, which had snow fall few weeks back) u can plan stay at narkanda well but will be extremely cold. there is alternative way from shimla via naldhera to hindustan tibet road for rampur bushair that leads to sarahan. in seven days do not think more. once u touch hindustan tibet road u can enjoy satluj as well. so there are two loops forming 8, center point being slight ahead of shimla across tunnel. this gives u two round trips subject to snow conditions. even if snow is there, both loops from one side possible.
while on return, if u can afford missing deluxe bus (volvo or tata plying from janpath hptdc office to shimla and also from airport to shimla also from isbt to shimla) try to return via jamta/ renuka which branches at kumarhatti before solan. jamta has nice accomodation. advise taxi (either from shimla or kumarhatti) via sarhan bhaneti (this is other sarhan not the one listed above). if there is heavy snow fall in upper reaches of shimla, and 8 loop is not possible even by one side, MUST cover this alternative. kumarhatti to jamta will take 2-3 hrs with no commercial activity in between. from jamta u can visit renuka lake and return to delhi or chandigarh (for train or flight) (via nahan).

Wink Re:

Dont know if u have alrdy left.. The dates suggest so though!

1. Delhi - Manali - Volvo Bus leaves at 8:26 pm.. Google for - 'hrtc india'. You can book seats online. Reaches manali at almost 11 am.

2. Try hotel snow valley resorts. Stayed there in August and was a pure bliss. Its in log huts area just next to apple valley resorts. Can get an auto to get to the resort from the bus stand for about 50 bucks with luggage.

3. you can fetch deluxe bus to shimla from manali or a cab. No luxury buses by state transport. Check with various tour operators on the main mall road in manali.

4. Try hotel combermere in shimla, its right in the beginning of mall road near the lift. Might be out of your budget though.

5. Volvo from shimla to delhi. Leaves at 11 am from shimla bus stand. Check the HRTC website for other options.

Hi Deven,
mabnali is certainly better for a honeymoon and you can try the hptdc or hrtc volvo for reaching manali.in manali hptdc runs regular tours to manikaran, naggar etc.Dont buy warm clothes in manali you'd be better off buying them in delhi.
