| hi hi there, basically i want to go to himachel and uttarankhand, i want to to somewhere where hindi is spoken as im currently learning hindi and wanna stay surrounded with hindi speakers. i have 2 times in which i can go- either from end of feb to the end of march or from begining of may to mid-end of may. which time do your think would be the best to go. the way i want to travel is start in uttaranchal and then travel through uttaranchal to himachel pradesh and then travel through pradesh as far north as i can go. i have an idea of either renting with other travells and doing this trip together or using busses to take me through these two states. do you think about 1 month is suffient time for this? do you have any ideas about this? this plan is still very liquid and i would be happy to hear any suggestions to alter this idea in odrer to make this a better experience. thanks for you help, Ayesha. |

| Why don't you consider Landour Language School at Mussorie in Uttarakhand Himalayas.

| Resonating | Yes, No school can teach you anything practically especially where language is concerned, if you do know few words.. you can learn so much from people on the road, i have met some foreigners who speak fluent Hindi and they did not go to any school for that. Coming back to the topic. May is a good time for the mountains, i would say in my opinion any time is a good time when it comes to mountains, but it does get really cold in winters..which in my opinion is fine..since there are so many people over the centuries who live in these situations, if they can... so can we ! and cold is bearable but the heat of north india is something which torments ! Uttrakhand, Himachal, Jammu and Kashmir are all good to go in may, if 1 month is ok.. is very subjective to what you are going there for.. if you want to cover things quickly on the road, then yes and no.. depends where all you go in these 2 states. For me Personally 1 month is not enough, the decision is yours to consider keeping your objectives of Himalayas in mind. The small hikes will be possible in may without doubt.

| Himachali dialect has generous sprinkling of Punjabi and accent is also so very Punjabi, so it's punjabified Hindi, rather I should say It's Punjabi with a smattering of Hindi. At Uttaranchal you may like to go to Dehradun... |

| Member | In my view, end of feb to March is good months to travel in Himalayas because these are lean tourist season. You will be able to find cheap hotels and can interact with locals easily. Once School exams are over by April, mountains becomes picnic spots for all the travellers from plains. |

| thanks for your help, i now have more time to spend in the mountains so i will just stay as long as i want to stay there but props no more than 3/4 months, but again everything just depends on everything. Lucid-i was just wondering what places you recomend to go in himachel and utteranchal, my reasons for going are just to explore the mountains and be immersed in the communties living there and way of life. in fact i would even like to live in himachel for a month or 2, and really become 1 with the environment.s if you know any good places where i could stay and live with the locals for a while, that would be useful. now im still undecided on when exactly to go im kinda thinking from comming starting from april time. i will be in punjab first. any indeas on the best way to get from punjab to himachel as i would probs better to go himachel first and then to to utterankand after. In march i wil be learning punjabi, any ideas on where to learn punjabi in punjab? |

| Punjab & Himachal are close, you can easily go to Himachal from Punjab. Moreover Punjab - Himachal - Uttaranchal is a logical route. Where will you be in Punjab ? |
