Hi all,

Please let me know that whether govt. volvo bus stand and private volvo bus stand are two different places in Manali.

Yes, State Volvo stand is the main bus stand besides the mall road.

Private volvos stop at/ run from an empty plot a couple of kms or so from ST bus stand towards the main Kullu highway. Can get autos or a ST bus from the highway which is quite frequent.

Road to Rohtang tunnel washed away

Cloudburst washed away the approach road to Rohtang tunnel on Tuesday night.
MANALI, JULY 26
Cloudburst in the Dhundi area washed away the approach road to the Rohtang tunnel at two places, bringing the traffic movement to a halt.
The cloudburst occurred at the midnight on Tuesday when heavy rain resulted in flash flood. The flooded water mixed with debris pounded the road, damaging it. Kullu, July 29
The traffic movement has been restored on the Aut-Luhri National Highway-305. The highway was blocked for 12 hours after heavy rain triggered landslides at Mashnu Nullah and Kot Nullah at Anni in the district yesterday. Shimla, July 31
Normal life was thrown out of gear as heavy to very heavy rain lashed several parts of the state, triggering landslides at many places and more than 140 link roads were closed to traffic in Shimla, Mandi, Kullu and Kangra districts.
Heavy rain uprooted trees at several places. Two women sustained injuries when a tree fell on the working women’s hostel in Sanjauli here last night. The building was also damaged. Cloudburst kills 1 in Kinnaur, roads in Shimla, Mandi blocked

Shimla, August 1
Heavy to very heavy rain lashed several parts of Himachal, triggering landslides at many places, blocking over 150 roads in the past 24 hour.
One person was killed while two sustained injuries as a landslide, caused by a cloudburst, destroyed two houses in Nugalsarai in Kinnaur district.
Landslides blocked Hindustan-Tibet National Highway at Nugalsarai. Mandi, August 2
Heavy rain led to flash flood in the tribal district of Lahaul-Spiti damaging 500-m-long stretch of a road connecting 10 villages of the Miyar valley. Apart from this, there was considerable damage to cash crops.
A flash flood in a nearby rivulet at Karpat village yesterday washed away a footbridge, a ropeway and a rain shelter. Kullu-Manali road to be made super highway
Manali: A 40km stretch of Kullu-Manali road will be made into a super highway, equipped with all modern facilities. Kullu administration plans to build cycle tracks on the both sides of the national highway between Kullu and Manali, which is being widened by the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI).
The district administration has chalked out a plan to equip the stretch with not only footpaths, but also build cycling tracks along it. This will ensure safe biking on the hill road with curbs and gradient. The highway will have drinking water facility and toilets at a certain distance. Parking spaces will also be developed. All these facilities will make the highway a super highway and also will boost tourism. At least 23 dead as two buses swept away by landslide in Mandi; more casualties feared

Dharamsala, August 13
At least 23 persons travelling in two buses were feared dead after the buses were swept away by a massive landslide near Jogindernagar in Mandi district last night. But the tragedy could be far greater, as more vehicles and people were believed to have been at the spot when an enitre hillside collapse. A PTI report quoted Director-General of Police Somesh Goyal as saying that there were eight passengers in the Manali-Katra Volvo bus, while 47 passengers were travelling in the other bus.
The buses are believed to have stopped for tea around midnight at a roadside stall at Kotrupi near Padder in Mandi district when the landslide struck, and swept them nearly 1 km into a gorge - here is the link to the news - http://www.tribuneindia.com/news/him...ed/451552.html

Mandi, August 12
Two persons, going by car from to Mandi from Kullu, were injured in a massive landslide on the Chandigarh-Manali highway at Dwada near Hanogi temple this evening.
The injured, identified as Rajinder Mehta (44) of Rampur in Shimla and Sanjeev Kumar of Bayal village in Kullu, had been rushed to the Zonal Hospital, Mandi.

A village near the Mandi-Pathankot National Highway was on Monday declared unsafe and residents asked to shift to safer places in view of threat of landslides even as rescue operations were on at the site where two buses were trapped under mounds of debris.

Some parts of Himachal Pradesh may experience heavy rain till Tuesday, a weather official said on Monday.
“There are chances of heavy rain in Solan, Shimla, Sirmaur and Bilaspur districts,” Manmohan Singh, the meteorological office director, told IANS.

Massive landslide blocks Rohru-Hatkoti-Theog road
Shimla, August 18
A massive landslide blocked the Rohru-Hatkoti-Theog highway at Dochi in Jubbal town in the district for the last 24 hours.
As rocks fell behind houses located on the lower side of the road, a transmission line running parallel to the highway caught fire after the rocks hit the road, spreading panic in Mihana and Dochi villages. “A major tragedy has been averted as we stopped vehicles on both sides as soon as we spotted the falling boulders on the road,” said Naresh Kumar, a resident of Mihana. For the ongoing Manimahesh pilgrimage, two helicopter operators - Aryan Aviation Pvt Ltd and UTair India Pvt Ltd – today started flights between Bharmour township and Gauri Kund, nearly three km short of Manimahesh lake in the mountainous terrain of Bharmour in Chamba district.
The flights would continue till August 29, the final bath day of the pilgrimage on the occasion of Radhashtami.
